TOPPING the Belted Galloway spring show and sale at Carlisle was an in-calf heifer, Huntshield Sasha, from Dumfriesshire breeders J and Z Kirk.
A daughter of Huntfield Red Bull and out of a Broadmeadows Lennie home-bred daughter, she sold for 3400gns, in-calf to Cairnsmore Fergus to Messrs Colbear of Appleby in Westmorland.
The first entry to the sale ring, was the in-calf heifer Matsway Moonstone, which secured the next leading price at 2800gns. Shown by Matthew Stoker, of East Lodge, Easton Grey, Malmesbury, she lifted the Supreme Championship award earlier in the day. A daughter of Bigginvale Malcolm and out of Whitepool Moondust, she was purchased by Northern Ireland breeder, Harry Irvine of Ballymena.
Harry also bought Gruige Gruoch from Dessy Henry of Ballymena, for 2400gns. By Ballylough Barney, this April-2014-born heifer is out of Gruige Daisy.
At 2300gns was Balcorrach Quail, from Elizabeth Smith, Balcorrach, Kirkmichael. Selling to EM Waldie Contracting, North Callange Farm, Cupar, she is by Huntfield Herman and out of Creamline Kirsty.
C and AE Cameron, Montgrew, Keith, Aberdeenshire, bought two heifers from James Bell of Croft House, Scaleby, Carlisle. At 2200gns was Brightenflatt Daytona, a Park Waverly and Huntfield Quiz daughter, and at 2000gns was Brightenflatt Decorah. She is by the same sire, and out of Castlefield Hillieflower.
Topping the bull classes was Staffords Alexander at 2600gns, from A and J Thomson of Aberdeen. This December-2014-born son of Esk Valley Glorious, is out of a Park Apollo bred mother, and he now joins the Balcorrach herd of Mrs E Smith, Banffshire.
