TWO new centre records were set at the Beef Shorthorn sale at Carlisle, last week, when bulls peaked at 8500gns and females hit a top of 6500gns hvaing met a 100% clearance.

Setting that top price was the rising two-year-old Gilven Journey, a roan AI son of Cavans Bourbon from RS and G Johnson. Already used in the herd at Maple Lane, Huby, York, he is out of the Trunley Regulator-sired Sapphire Your Valentine of Bilsdale Ex90, a cow which has bred a number of winners in the show ring, Forking out the cash to take Journey home to Fall Top Farm, Clayton, Bradford, were S and J Hodgson,

The Hodgsons also bought four females including two at 3600gns and 3100gns. The dearest of these was the female champion and first on offer from Allan Jackson's Headlind herd in the shape of Roadway Joyful Tanzy. The breeding of this 26-month-old, which sold in calf to Tofts Atlas, includes Tofts Prelude on to Roadway Farzana Tanzy.

D Nesbitt bought two of the trade leaders to take home to Woodhow Farm, Wasdale, including the male champion and the record priced female. Making 7500gns was Jack Ramsay's Millerston Juggernaut, an August 2015-born son of the Meonhill Charlie Chaplin bull that has bred many champions and sale toppers for Jack's Mauchline-based herd. Juggernaut is out of Millerston Madeline Caley.

Setting the centre female record was P Turnbull's Oakleigh Justright, a two-year-old roan heifer by Blelack Masterpiece which also sired last year's female champion. Bred out of Endeavour Brook from the herd at Kildale, Whitby, she ran with Chapelton Bonanza and was scanned in calf.
