A COLLECTIVE sale of Dairy Shorthorn females, which included the second part of the Brafell dispersal as well as the dispersal of the milking portion of the Winbrook herd, hit a top of 2300gns for a freshly calved heifer at Penrith last week.

Selling for that price was Winbrook Cactus 30, a roan heifer out of Winbrook Pedro Ex91 from GA and WA Dents. She sold to Basil and Adam Lawson, Fife, yielding 35 litres per day.

The Lawsons who also own a pedigree Friesian herd at North Cassingray, Fife, also purchased Winbrook Jill 161, a cow in milk, for 1800gns.
Local producer, G Carter bought a few milking cows from Winbrook in Winbrook Ruth 99 at 1820gns, Winbrook Dewdrop 144 for 1750gns and Winbrook Vi 153 for 1500gns.

Other milking heifers reached 1780gns for Winbrook Jill 165 and 1760gns for Winbrook Fairy Princess 5, both of which sold to I and ME Askew.
Just behind on 1750gns was another Winbrook heifer, Winbrook Cactus 28, which was knocked down to C Dent.

The sole bull, Oxton Farms’ Hooton Envoy-sired Oxton Xavier, sold to Messrs Hewson’s Parton herd at Wigton for 1600gns.

DM and SV forked out 1120gns for the dearest of the in-calf heifers, John Teasdale’s Brafell Lady Laura 22, and bulling heifers reached 1000gns for Brafell Lady Hermione 27 which sold to B Blenkharn.
