TRADE was brisk throughout at Harrison and Hetherington’s May sale of breeding cattle, where 288 heifer or cow and calf outfits cashed in to average £2141.45. 

They peaked at £3850 for a British Blue cross heifer with her Limousin-sired heifer calf at foot from Messrs Tipling, Sleights House, who also achieved the best average of £3250 for three units. 

This top price was followed at £3800 on two occasions – for a British Blue heifer and Limousin cross bull calf from Scottish consignors, Craig Malone and Teen Millar, Pitcairn, as well as for another Blue heifer and Limousin cross heifer calf from Messrs Elliot, Bankhouse. 

Bulling heifers also met a strong demand, peaking at £2700 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Hall, Ainstable Hall, who sold another another at £2000. The entry from Middle Farm reached £1920 each for a Blue and a Limousin bulling heifer.
