Ten lots sold at or above the £2000 mark and to a top of £2300, at Wright-Marshall's Month-End dairy sale which included pedigree entries from the Western Holstein Club, at Beeston Auction Mart.

The sale, which attracted an increased entry of 140 cows and milking heifers, saw a buoyant trade throughout and another 100% clearance.

Cows proved the star attraction with the £2300 sale leader being a second calver from Philip Gilman, Newport, Shropshire, purchased by JG and CA Bayley, Nuneaton, Warwickshire. She was paraded a month calved and giving 48kg.

The same vendors and buyers were also behind the second top priced cow at £2050, when a similarly aged entry giving 41kg, also sold to the Nuneaton unit.

One of the highlights in the heifer section was the run of 18 fresh calved Montbeliarde and Swedish Red Processes from new vendors R and C Bates, Marton, who sold to a top of £2080 twice, for entries giving 32kg and 29kg, both purchased by PA and E Ford, Nantwich.

Averages: 38 cows £1464.72; 27 none-pedigree milking heifers £1775.56; 60 pedigree milking heifers, £1612.42; 13 in-calf heifers, £1423.08.
