Breed records for an Aberdeen Angus calf have been smashed with the private sale of the Clark family's Duncanziemere Magic Boy T224, which sold for £15,000 at 2.5months of age, to new breeder, Andrew Anderson, Plewlands, Elgin.

"He's the best thing I've seen in a long time," said Mr Anderson, who saw the calf at the Highland Show, and aims to build up a select number of breeding females over the next few years.

"I got the bug for the Aberdeen Angus breed at the World Forum and I really think native breeds are the way forward. The calf had the length, muscling ability, top line and spark. He just ticked all the boxes."

The calf, which was paraded at the Highland Show alongside his show winning dam, Duncanziemere Miss Belinda P092, by Alistair Clark an sons Brian and Alistair, from Cumnock,

is backed by top genetics on both sides.

His sire is Duncanziemere Editor P112 – an embryo bred from the noted breeding cow, Duncanziemere Edwina C119 that has produced bulls to 11,000gns and 9000gns and sired by Blelack Junor Eric.

Editor's full sister, Duncanziemere Edwina N043 was first prize yearling at the Highland in 2014 and champion at Ayr Show in 2015 and went on to breed the Ayr show champion in 2016 and reserve junior female champion at the Highland 2016 and first prize two-year-old with calf at this year's Highland Show.

Magic Boy's dam is Duncanziemere Miss Belinda P092, by Rawburn Jester Eric J034 – a bull bought privately that was breed and inter-breed champion at the Highland in 2014 and has bred sons to 15,000gns.

The sale was brokered through Perthshire breeder, Neil Caul.
