Top price at the dispersal of Robert Smith's Lockton Charolais herd from Rowan Farm, Lockton, Pickering, was 4250gns for a cow and calf outfit.
The sale, staged at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, first saw the six-year-old in-calf cow, Lockton Gemma, by the Dingle Hofmeister son, Lockton Vigorous, out of Lockton Utopia, sell for 2550gns to Northern Ireland breeder, A Gallagher, Newtonstewart, Co Tyrone. Her October 2016-born heifer calf, Lockton Marigold, by Vexour Freddy, then made 1700gns to Flintshire breeder, Tomos Rich, Cefn Uchaf, Cilcain, Mold.
Mr Rich also went to 2950gns for Lockton Honey, a five-year-old by the Maerdy Impeccable son, Lockton Duarte, out of Lockton Uraeus.
Leading the in-calf heifer section at 2900gns was Lockton Jorja, also by Duarte. She is out of a home-bred cow by Lockton Angler, and sold to JD Thomas, Maesrhiw, Llanwrda, Carmarthenshire.
Averages: 50 cows and heifers served and/or suckling £2169.51; 10 maiden heifers £1047.90.
