A red hot dam and daughter combined to make the top price of £7300 at the August Month End dairy sale at Beeston, which attracted an entry of 230 head and saw a 100% clearance.
Star attraction was Sterndale Ladd Noel Red, a second calver from AJ Nash’s Whartonpool herd from Winterley, Sandbach, that was bought three years ago. Backed by seven successive generations of Excellent-classified cow, she sold alongside her seven-week old heifer calf by Arvis.
The cow, which gave more than 11,600kg as a heifer and is giving 52.4kg per day made £4800 while her daughter, Whartonspool Arvis Noel Red, born early July, sold for £2500. Both were purchased by the cow’s original breeder, Bill Nadin, Fernydale, Earl Sterndale.
The heifer trade was as buoyant as ever, peaking at £2200 for an entry from Emerald Grove Farms, Abercych, Dyfed. Their Wyman daughter, which calved in July and sold giving 35.6kg, was purchased by C and S Fitton, Middlewich.
Next at £2000, was a non-pedigree heifer by Mascol Mars, that calved two weeks previously and sold giving 31kg. She was consigned by RS Home, Wirral, and sold to J Roberts and Son, Gwynedd.
In-calf heifers were a great trade, peaking at £1800 on two occasions, both consigned by C and S Thomasson.
Homestar Million Celestial 2 sold due in September to Silver to RW Harper and Partners, Nantwich, and Survivor Milli 289 changed hands due at the end of September sexed to District to GR Thomas, Llanelli.
