Unfavourable weather conditions had an impact on trade at the Border and Lakeland Holstein Club sale, with many producers concerned about the amount of crop still to harvest.
Nevertheless, 14 heifers broke the £2000 barrier with the lead prices following the show winners.
Sale leader at 3000gns was the pre-sale champion. That was Jane Steel’s Lomond Atwood Tory, a January 2015-born heifer that sold freshly calved to Jason Booth, Ballymaguire Road, Dungannon. She is out of a GP84 Tory that sold for 5000gns at the same sale and goes back to an 11,104kg Mr Sam daughter.
Willie Brewster paid 2700gns for the reserve champion – Alan Cannon’s Espland Naomi, a Zelgadis daughter from Espland Hill, Brampton, Cumbria. With two VG86 dams behind her, she goes back to a Pagewire cow that recorded 15,232kg during her third.
Mr Brewster also paid 2150gns to take Warnelview Jordan Susette 4 home to Wester Boreland, Thornhill. Consigned by Kevin and Christine Wilson, Wood Farm, Thursby, her Ex90 LP90-rated mother boasts regular yields of teen-figures and is still going strong in to her ninth.
Also making 2700gns was the third prize heifer from Stephen Boow. Dunnerdale Euphoric Sabrina 2, which comes from a long line of VG and Ex cows, sold to JJ Crosier, Whinhill House, Newsholme, Clitheroe.
Mr Boow’s four-strong entry from Corney Hall, Millom, Cumbria, also brought in 2400gns for the fourth prize heifer, Dunnerdale Lineman Sabrina. She is bred from an equally strong Ex line and was knocked down to KM and KM Mawson, Bailey Ground, Stanton Way, Seascale.
And selling at 2100gns was Dunnerdale Masterful Gail, which was purchased by  Smallthwaite Farms, Calthwaite, Penrith.

Averages: 57 heifers in milk, £1837.50.
