Entries from the Harry Horrell’s draft sale of Podehole Beef Shorthorns from Thorney, Peterborough, proved the star attraction at a breed sale at Worcester, producing the top five prices.
Dearest at 4100gns was Podehole Tessa Jest, a white, 2½-year-old heifer, by Podehole Fandango, out of a home-bred dam, which sold in calf to Rickerstown Jackaroo. The buyer was A Haigh, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.
Next at 3400gns was the red Podehole Phantasy Jolly, a similarly aged Fandango daughter, in calf to Knockenjig Hercules, purchased by A and C Farms, Langham, Leicestershire.
The same buyers then went to 3300gns and 3100gns for Podehole heifers by the 10,500gns Millerston Fine Ideal. The former, Podehole Phantasy Josephine, a red heifer sold due to Hercules, with the latter secured being the 18-month old red and white maiden heifer, Podehole Gypsy Kirika.
Oxfordshire breeder, RF Leach, Banbury, also went to 3300gns for Podehole Rothes Jubilee, a light roan by Podehole Fandango, due to Hercules.
Top price outwith the Podehole consignment was 3400gns paid by JN Rogers, Hereford, for a cow and calf from Jill Williams, and T and K Bodily, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. The rising four-year-old roan, Glebedale Lancaster Harmoney, is by Rothesay Eildon, while her six-month-old heifer, Glebedale Lancaster Lulu, is a Grafton Hubert daughter.
