A MOTHER and daughter that sold as a split lot, attracted the lead price of 7200gns at the dispersal of JD Leavesley's Tutbury Charolais herd, from from Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire.

The herd, which was established just two years ago and founded on Newroddige genetics, was dispersed at Welshpool Auction Mart, due to a change in farm policy.

Sale leader was Newroddige Jody, a February 2014-born cow that stood champion at Bakewell Show and reserve overall beef at Staffordshire Country Show. She is by the 30,000gns Balmyle Bollinger and out of the Derryharney Outstanding-sired Newroddige Delightful. Jody made 5500gns selling to J Conn, Strabane, Co Tyrone, while her nine-month-old heifer calf, Tutbury Matilda, by the French-bred Unico SC, made 1700gns selling up to Ellon, Aberdeenshire, with AJR Farms.

Another pair, this time purchased as a set, made 5200gns selling to MA and V Roberts, Botwnnog, Gwynedd. This was the similarly aged Newroddige Jewfull, a daughter of Alwent Goldbar out of Newroddige Graceful, by Maerdy Estyn. Her eight-month-old male calf, Tutbury Navigator, is also by Unico SC.

Selling for a combined sale of 4300gns was Newroddige Jazmin, another 2014-born daughter of Alwent Goldbar, out of Newroddige Chloe an her eight-month-old heifer calf, Tutbur Noellla by Unico SC. The cow made 1750gns selling to AK Watkins, Kentchurch, Herefordshire and the calf was purchased by AJR Farms, Aberdeenshire for 2550gns.

AJR Farms also went to 2500gns and 2100gns for heifers which included the January 2015-born Newroddige Linda, which sold in calf to Balthayock Impression. She is by the 10,000gns Esgob Ferrari. The 20-month-old Tutbury Maisie, again by Esgob Ferrari, made 2100gns
