A LARGE ringside of buyers from across the British Isles ensured a buoyant trade at Harrison and Hetherington’s annual show and sale of Aberdeen-Angus and native-bred cattle at St Boswells, last week.
An entry of 1104 cattle saw bullocks average £1109 or 228.41p per kg, up £79 or 16.41p on the year, while heifers increased by 5.45p to level at £912 or 208.45p.
Judge, William Henderson, Lambholm, selected two bullocks from Messrs Ross, Wester Middleton, as champion and reserve, with the champion bullock selling for £1420 to Smallburn Farms. The same home also paid £1300 for the reserve champion.
Top price however was £1500 paid for a pen of 12 Aberdeen-Angus bullocks from J and J Campbell, Wedderlie.
