trade remained strong at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 564 store cattle and weaned calves.
Stores peaked at £1385 for a Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Weal, Birkshawhead, Lockerbie, while heifers sold to £1270 from a British Blue cross from Messrs Thomlinson, Standing Stonerigg, Carlisle. 
On Monday, a larger show of store sheep was topped at £83 for a pen of nine Beltex lambs from Messrs Wood, Well Head Farm, Workington. 
The 170 breeding rams sold the same day peaked at £500 for a Texel shearling from Messrs Toppin, Basco Dyke.

UNITED Auctions sold 1198 store cattle at a special show and sale, where Limousin crosses topped the price per kg trade at 257.4p for a 408kg heifer from Easter Greenhill and 246.5p for a 432kg bullock from Balgray. 
A 692kg Charolais cross heifer from Midlock topped the gross trade at £1400 while bullocks reached £1340 for a 702kg British Blue from Wintermuir. 
Overall, 457 heifers levelled at 204.29p with 701 bullocks at 216.82p. 
The 30 dairy stots averaged 138.36p and sold to 181.1p and £900 for a 497kg Ayrshire cross from Low Drummore. 
Cast beef cows (99) averaged 117.17p, peaking at 177.1p for an Angus cross from Quixwood and £1610 for a Limmy cross from Wester Bonhard. Averaging 93.62p, 31 dairy cows reached 126.2p and £1030 for a Holstein cross off Bandirran.  
On Monday, the entry of 5296 store sheep, saw lambs peak at £73.50 for Texel crosses from East Buchanty.

Thainstone
A TOTAL of 4167 sheep sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts, which included a show and sale of Suffolk and Texel rams. 
Reserve champion Texel, was a shearling from M Seed and Son, Home Farm of Auchry, which made £700, while the champion, a lamb from Robbie Wilson, North Dorlaithers, realised £300. 
Taking the Suffolk championship before selling for £500 was a shearling from GB and L Swanson, East Murkle, while the reserve, a lamb from S and L Ewen, Waterton, made £420. 
The 859 breeding females peaked at £158 twice, for two-crop Texel ewes from Upper Sauchen, Ordhead, and for Suffolk gimmers from Mid Mains of Balfour, Fettercairn. Mules from Mains of Glenbuchat, Strathdon, topped the 180 ewe lambs at £96. 
Store lambs (1061) reached £70 for Suffolk crosses from Evergreen, Kininmonth, and Suffolks from Westloch, Burravoe, Yell, led the 1238 island lambs at £64.

A more mixed offering of store cattle sold a couple days later alongside a show and sale of weaned calves, saw a 394kg Limousin cross bullock from 5 Cleat, St Margaret’s Hope, top the trade at 243.7p per kg, with a 638kg Simmental cross bullock from Broomhill, Academy Street, at £1305. 
The 394 bullocks averaged 206.3p while 181 heifers levelled at 202.6p and sold to 241p per kg for a 498kg heifer from Greenfield, Rothes, and £1280 for a 584kg Charolais cross from Housegarth, Quoyloo.   
The 4488 sheep from the Orkney and Shetland islands, saw 3705 store lambs reach £90 for Texel ewe lambs from Glenisla, Gulberwick, with the consignment from GB and AM Anderson, Seafield House, Lerwick, selling to £72.50 for Suffolks. 
The 783 island sheep sold to £90 for Cheviot gimmers from Seafield House. 
On Tuesday, 74 breeding cattle sold to £2350 for a Limousin heifer with heifer calf from Witton, Glenlethnot,.

more weathered cattle resulted in a reduced average at Craig Wilson’s  store sale where 190 bullocks levelled at 209.8p per kg or £897.50, with 100 dairy bullocks at 138.5p or £637.35 and 166 heifers at 198.6p or £789.52.
Topping at £1265 was a pair of Limousin bullocks from High Skeog, while a pen of Angus bullocks from Lawmarnock topped the price per kg at 232.2p. 
Limousins from Knockterra led the heifers at £1115 or 227.6p, and dairy bullocks reached £920 from High Skeog and 154.3p from Park o’Barnaigh.

The firm’s sale of 73 breeding rams and 2605 breeding females and store lambs, was topped at £600 for a non-accredited Texel shearling from Carbello, while the accredited section peaked at £450 for a Texel shearling from Ballochneil Cottage. 
Cheviot gimmers from J and A McLellan, Mid Floak, led the breeding females at £108. The sale included a consigment of 190 Roussin and Mule ewes from Rotmitchell Farms, Pinmore, which peaked at £93 for Roussin ewes. 
Blackface ewes hit £68 from Helen Fleming, Cronberry, who also sold Blackie ewe lambs to £61. 
Stores peaked at £62.50 twice, for Suffolk crosses from Dumfries House, and again for Mules from J Gilmour, Blackbarns.

A PLAINER and smaller show of store cattle for Wallets Marts’ sale, saw 64 head peak at £1180 and 232.1p for a pen of Limousin cross bullocks from AJ Sharp and Son, Barscarrow. 
Heifers reached £1100 for a Simmental from Edingham and 209p for Charolais crosses from Bargatton. 
Averaging 100.3p, 54 cast cows sold to 137p and £993.25 for an Aberdeen-Angus cow from HM Taylor, Mosside. 
The firm also sold 179 breeding cattle where a Limousin heifer with Limousin heifer calf from Messrs Fisher, Flathill, led at £2250

Darlington
STORE cattle sold at Darlington Farmers’ Auction Mart’s recent sale, peaked at £1340 for a 16-month-old Limousin cross bull from D Dixon, Middle Heads. 
Heifers reached £1290 for an 18-month-old British Blue from B and J Donald, Gibbs Neese, and bullocks sold to a top price of £1200 for a 21-month-old Limousin cross from R and W Todd, High Toft Hill.

BEST quality and younger breeding outfits sold well at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of breeding cattle, where a Limousin cow with Limmy-sired bull calf from AT and TC Skyrme, Eastfield of Wiston, topped at £1300. 
The 121 store cattle met a mixed trade and sold to £1150 for Limousin bullocks from Devenport Farms, Blakelaw, with heifers to £1000 for Aberdeen-Angus from Cushag. 
A poorer show of store lambs met the dearest trade peaking at £76 for Beltex crosses from G Edgar, Low Longlands. 
Cheviots (2598) reached £58.50 for Hill Northies also from Low Langlands, and Blackfaces (1640) sold to £49 from Brieredge.

FEMALES met a satisfactory trade at the annual Highlands and Islands Sheep Health Association (HISHA) of 2340 store and breeding sheep at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ Kingussie centre. 
HISHA Blackface ewe lambs averaged £72.56 (-£1.84 on the year) and sold to £67 from BW Johnstone, Achnabat, Dores, while gimmers levelled at £81.84 (-£4.73) having peaked at £84 from PA Junor, Balchraggan. 
Averaging £51.72 (-£9), ewes sold to £76 from K Matheson and Son, Milton of Aberarder, Dores. 
Non-HISHA Blackface gimmers from R MacDonald and Son, Drumgesk, Laggan, topped the sale at £94.
