TRADE hit 3800gns at the British Blonde and Hereford cattle sales at Carlisle where only six Blondes and two Herefords changed hands.
It was the supreme Blonde, Hallfield Major, from P Weightman and Sons’ Hallfield herd, from Peterlee, Co Durham, which led the trade. This February, 2016-born bull is by Blackwater Ainsley, out of Hallfield Uproar, and sold to TT and GE Hodgson, Woosdside, Maryport, Cumbria.
At 3700gns, the reserve champion Blonde from KA and RJ Stott’s Cairneden herd, Carlisle – Cairneden Maxwell, a May, 2016-born son of Ark Diego, out of Hilltop Evie – was knocked down to Messrs Mitchell, Grassknop, Penrith.
Leading the Herefords at 2600gns when selling to Scottish breeders, V and R Murdoch, Murroch, Dumbarton, was Normanton 1 Niknakpaddywak from TD and WT Livesey’s Normanton herd, Leicester. This October, 2015-born son of Dorepoll 1 579 Knighthood, is out of Normanton 1 Grifola 4.
Richard and Jane Middleton’s Lochhill Beef Shotrhorn herd dispersal peaked at 1800gns for Lochhill Butterfly Gem, a four-year-old cow by Rothesay Diamond, which sold to JA Robertson, Easterhouse, West Calder.
