The major reduction of Charolais cattle at Stirling from the Baillie family’s Ballieston herd, all the way from Orkney, hit a top price of 4200gns.
The sale, which was being staged to provide Rognvald and Agnes Baillie and sons, Magnus, James and Rognvald, more time with their expanding fruit and vegetable business, was topped by the maiden heifer, Baillieston Madge.
This March, 2016-born daughter of Blelack Digger, is out of the Balthayock Gunfire daughter, Baillieston Irena, and sold to Charlie Boden, buying for his Sportsmans herd from Mellor Hall, Stockport, Cheshire.
At 3200gns, DA Anderson, Nether Falla, Eddleston, Peebles, bought Baillieston Henrietta, a five-year-old cow by the 15,000gns Maerdy Deiniol, with a June-born bull calf at foot by Blelack Digger. Henrietta ran with Baillieston Jagger and then with Baillieston Lord.
Just behind, on 3100gns, RL Riddle and Son, Blakelaw Farm, Bellingham, purchased the six-year-old cow, Baillieston Gwin. Another by Deiniol, Gwin changed hands with heifer calf by the 25,000gns Maerdy Hasse and again served to either Jagger or Lord.
