A SMALLER entry of store cattle sold dearer on the week through Harrison and Hetherington, where a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Park, Baldwinholme, topped the trade at £1395, while Limousin bullocks from the same home reached £1245 twice. 
A large show of 266 weanlings and un-entered cattle was forward, peaking at £1190 for a 12-month-old Limousin bull from Messrs Proctor, Swarland Old Hall.

STORE lambs met a brisk trade at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 7183 sheep of all classes, which included consignments from the islands. 
The main entry of 2745 store lambs reached £70 for Suffolks from Clackriach Cottage, Maud, with that price matched by more of the same from Greentoft, Eday, which led the 1917 island lambs. Island sheep (331) hit £78 for Cheviot ewes from Findlins, Hillswick. 
The entry of breeding sheep saw the 87 rams peak at £440 for a Suffolk shearling from Bogfon, Maryculter, with 1329 females to £148 for Texel gimmers from Corshelloch, Glenlivet. 
Feeding sheep (778) sold to £100.50 for Texel ewes from Waterside, Forbes.

THE firm’s sale of 935 store cattle a couple of days later saw well presented stock easy to sell but weathered types more difficult. 
Limousin cross bullocks led the trade at 280.1p per kg for four weighing 282kg from Towie, New Aberdour, and £1340 for three at 656kg from Nether Minmore, Glenkindie. 
Four 374kg Simmental crosses from Mains of Lurg, Nethy Bridge, topped the heifers at 256.7p and a pair of 718kg Beef Shorthorn cross heifers from Chapelford, Buckie, realised £1330.
The sale saw 493 bullocks average 210.2p (-4.1p on the week) with 429 heifers at 204.9p (+6.8p). 
Also sold were 2143 sheep from the Shetland Islands, where Suffolks from Gunnigarth, West Sandwick, led the 1687 lambs at £61.50 and Suffolks from Lower House, Hillwell, topped the 456 other sheep at £70.

ALL classes met a slight increase in value at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 405 weaned and store cattle, where a pen of 235kg Limousin cross bullocks from Keppoch Farms, Roy Bridge, topped the price per kg trade at 280.9p. 
Bullocks (241) also reached £1180 for a pair of 620kg Limousin crosses from Cloverlea, Portmahomack, and averaged 224.1p. 
Heifers (157) averaged 211.7p and sold to 272.2p for a pair of 180kg Simmental crosses from Birchview, Lairg, and £1010 three times – for a 455kg Shorthorn cross from 6 Habost, Isle of Lewis; a pair of 442kg Limousin crosses from Kildun, Dingwall; and again for a 510kg Limousin cross from 186 Migdale, Bonar Bridge.
Levelling at 112.4p, the 64 prime and feeding cows reached 182.8p for a Simmental cross from 250 Rearquhar, Dornoch, and £1210 for another from Kindeace Farm, Invergordon.
A couple days later, 5505 breeding and feeding sheep were sold where quality breeders met a keen demand and sold at levels ahead of recent sales. 
Texel crosses from 5C Balnabeen, Conon Bridge, led the females at £140 for gimmers and £120 for ewes, with the 1214 gimmers levelling at £80.72 and 3201 ewes at £51.81. 
Rams (20) sold to £170 for a Cheviot from 12 Bualnaluib, Aultbea.
More Texel crosses, this time from Strathgarve Farms, Garve, led the 167 lambs at £55, while 20 wedders averaged £31.50 and sold to £46 for Cheviots from 5 Achininver, Lairg.
Feeding ewes (874) averaged £42.25 and sold to £78 gross for Texel crosses from Guisachan, Tomich.

A top price of 253.3p per kg was achieved for a 450kg British Blue cross bullock from Mains of Collithie, Gartly, with the 156 bullocks, which averaged 213.6p, also reaching £1330 for a Simmental cross from Nether Minmore, Glenkindie. 
Heifers (128) averaged 210.8p, having peaked at 241.4p for a 350kg Charolais cross from Haddoch Farm, Rothiemay, and £1300 for a Limousin cross from Kinchurdy, Boat of Garten.

A PLAINER show was on offer at Craig Wilson’s sale of 371 store cattle, at Ayr, where cattle from Bickethall topped the price per kg when a pen of British Blue bullocks realised 254p and heifers reached 230.2p for Limousins. 
Per head, Limousin bullocks from Collennan led the trade at £1345 with heifers to £1080 for a British Blue from Quogach, Rothesay. 
The 157 bullocks averaged 201.2p or £807.87, with 151 heifers at 196.8p or £782.32.

A GOOD show of lambs met a competitive trade at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 771, where Suffolks from Roshglen led the entry at £61.50.
On Monday, some 276 store cattle reached £1500 twice – for an April-born Limousin cross heifer from Gary Bell, Haas Side, which realised 638.3p per kg, and for Limousin bullocks from Maulcastle Farming, which made 441.2p

ABERDEEN and Northern Marts sold 934 sheep, where the 49 breeding sheep peaked at £350 for a Suffolk shearling ram from 10 Clayock, Halkirk. 
Texels off Brabsterdorran (Sutherland) led the ewe lambs at £83, which averaged £53.30, while 678 store lambs levelled at £45.72 having sold to £73 for Suffolks from Forsie, Bridge of Westfield.

A SALE of store cattle at Caledonian Marts on Monday, saw Limousins from Brian Harper, Greenwells, lead the pence per kg at 357p for bullocks and 307p for heifers. 
A Limousin bullock from J Dunn and Co, Martnaham Mains, led the gross trade at £1280, with heifers to £1210 for a Charolais from W Oswald and Son, Broadleys. 
Bullocks averaged 207p with heifers at 204p. 
Store lambs reached £63 for Suffolk crosses from Craigluscar.

A mixed show of breeding sheep sold to £200 for a Texel cross Beltex shearling tup from Trafford, Springfield, with females to £98 for Mule gimmers off New Hall.
