A HEIFER by Grafeeti from Brian Moorhouse landed the championship at a show and sale of dairy cattle at Skipton, before selling for the top price of £2150.

The home-bred heifer from Brian's Aireburn herd of Holsteins at Hesper, Bell Busk, which was given the top ticket by judge Edward Fort, Silsden, calved a fortnight previously and was knocked down at that price to Brian Blezard, Ribchester, yielding 31 litres daily.

Mr Moorhouse also sold a Miguel daughter bred from a VG85 dam for £1950 to the Sowray brothers, Bishop Thornton. She was giving 30kg per day.

Matching that £1950 price tag was the reserve champion, another Grafeeti-sired heifer but this time consigned by Samantha Sugden, Laycock. Bought as a bulling heifer from GD Donkin, Blackburn, this heifer was paraded having calved 18 days ago and giving 29 litres. Forking out the cash was Richard Sutcliffe, Queensbury.

The Sowray brothers were back in buying mode when they paid £1800 for the third prize heifer from Peter Baul, Bishop Thornton. She changed hands yielding 30kg.

Another to sell for £1800, this time to Stephen and George Breare, Silsden Moor, was a third calved cow giving 30 litres from David Fort, Glusburn.
