Paul and Alan Hedworth's dispersal of the One-Way pedigree Holstein herd from Kirkbride, Wigton, attracted a packed ringside of supporters and buyers and a lead price of 2900gns.

The sale, staged at Harrison and Hetherington's Borderway Mart, Carlisle, featured no less than three Excellent, 47 Very Goods and 75 Good Plus cows, with the sale leader being One-way Altasustain Lois by Gil-Gar AltaSustain.

She calved her third in July and was giving 45kg per day having produced almost 14,000litres in her second. Classified VG88, she was purchased by DR and HM Horsley, who own the Woodcatt Holstein herd at Woodhouse, Catterlen, Penrith.

At 2600gns, the Taylor family from Lowsay, Silloth, Wigton, bought One-Way Ronney Ravia by Brandt-View AltaOtis. This freshly calved second calver, is bred from three generations of dams classified Very Good.

Top priced heifer at 2300gns was One-Way Mopan Jethjan, a Mopan daughter purchased by RK and C Rudd Grassings Farm, Kirkbride. She calved back in June and was still producing more than 30kg per day. She is due again in May to AltaPainter.

A number of young cows and heifers went home with C Dent, Bride End Farm, Kirkby Thore, including One-Way Embargo Iris, at 2250gns. This freshly calved heifer is by Mr Lookout P Embargo an bred from two Very Good dams.

Trade for in-calf heifers was strong with an overall average of £1430 and two heifers topping at £1600. First was One-Way Atlaroble Astroolymo, purchased by RK and C Rudd, Grassings Farm, Kirkbride with the second, One-Way Aikman Sheila Red, by Gen-I-Beq Aikman, heading home with J Rae, Boghead Farm, Dumfries.
