LIMOUSINS from David Dickinson, of Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, scooped both the champion and reserve honours at Lawrie and Symington’s annual Christmas show and sale of prime cattle at Lanark, on Monday, where 41 bullocks and heifers averaged 256.4p per kg.
First to take the red, white and blue sash and topping the day’s trade at 320p or £1911 was a Limousin cross heifer which scaled 546kg and sold to JH Cairns Butchers, Law.
Reserve for Mr Dickinson was the best opposite sex to the champion, a 548kg Limousin cross bullock which sold to the same buyer for 320p or £1753.60.
The show and sale of 46 young calves was judged by Andrew Sloan, Uppermoor, Lockerbie, who tapped out a Limousin cross bull calf from Messrs Bryson, Dykehead, Lesmahagow, as champion. He went on to top the sale at £350, while the reserve champion from the same home, another Limousin cross bull calf, made £290.
Outwith the show, 2369 new season lambs averaged 179.4p and peaked at 233.3p for 42kg Texels from Robert and Margaret Struthers Collielaw, as well as £104.50 for Beltex weighing 45kg from P and M Gray, Eastfield.
