Carlisle
A GOOD entry of strong store cattle peaked at £1400 for a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Armstrong, Hazeldean, Gretna, at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale, which saw bullocks sell to £1395 for Limousin crosses from Messrs Batey, High Knells. 
On Monday, a smaller show of store lambs met a stronger demand on the week, reaching a top of £82.50 for a pen of Beltex cross lambs from Messrs Coulthard, Fell Side Farm, Caldbeck.

Ayr
ALL classes sold dearer on the week at Craig Wilson’s sale of 287 store cattle last week, where 107 bullocks averaged 209.9p per kg or £946.03 and 77 heifers levelled at 201.8p or £867.60.
A top price of £1355 was paid for a Charolais bullock from Caprickhill, while eight Aberdeen-Angus bullocks from Glenkiln, Arran, topped the pence per kg section at 289.8p.
Amongst the heifers, a Charolais from High Kilbride sold for £1265, while a pen of five Limousins from Blairbowie made 229.4p.
The 103 Friesian bullocks averaged 132.8p or £511.07 and reached £940 for a pen from Helentongate and 150.9p for the same from Coilsholm. 
A large show of store lambs met a strong trade, hitting £67 for Texels from Messrs Clark, Dunrod, Inverkip. 
On Tuesday, the company sold 51 breeding cattle where a plainer show for quality resulted in a firm trade. Top price was £1500 paid for a Salers heifer with bull calf from Drumore.

UNITED Auctions sold 764 store cattle at Stirling, last week, where 388 bullocks averaged 209.70p per kg and 337 heifers levelled at 200.82p. 
Top price per kg was 275.8p paid for a 330kg Charolais cross bullock from Spittal, while a top per head was £1380 given for a 680kg Limousin cross heifer from The Ross. 
Bullocks reached £1300 for a 668kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Croftlane and heifers to 246.6p for a Charolais cross weighing 296kg from Sorn Mains.
The 25 black and white bullocks averaged 131.42p having sold to 145.5p and £685 for a 471kg Holstein Friesian cross from Westerhill. 
Averaging 119.85p, 175 cast cows peaked at 178.9p for a Simmental cross from Hard House and £1000 for a Charolais cross from Midlock. Dairy cows (44) levelled at 96.09p and sold to 144.7p and £1110 for Holstein crosses from Bandirran. 
Topping the 138 breeding cattle at £3700 was a Limousin bull from the Bolfracks dispersal.

WELL-bred and presented cattle were easily cashed at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 513 store cattle, where 292 bullocks averaged 220.3p per kg (+0.7p on the week) and 218 heifers levelled at 206.2p (-4.3p). 
Charolais crosses weighing 256kg from Cairntack, Belhelvie, topped the bullocks at 302.7p and £1370, while heifers reached 260.3p for a 292kg British Blue cross from Dell Farm, Whitebridge, and £1265 for a Limousin from Wester Invery, Strachan. 
The firm’s sale of 2543 store lambs and feeding sheep, saw lambs peak at £69 for Suffolks from West Davoch, Tarland, with island lambs to £71.50 for Texels from New Moan, Harray.
Mules from Newton of Hassiewells, Rothienorman, led the small section of ewe lambs at £70 with breeding sheep peaking at £200 for a Texel from Bridgefoot, Kemnay.

AVERAGES slightly increased on the week at Mitchell Auctions’ store sale last week, where all classes proved easy to sell with strong demand around the ringside.

A quality show of store lambs also sold dearer to a top of £84 for Beltex lambs from Ericstane Farm, Moffat.

UNITED Auctions’ Christmas show and sale attracted 560 cattle at Dalmally last weekend, where bullocks averaged £684.60 and heifers levelled at £539.24. 
Judge, Tony Miller of High Gameshill, Stewarton, found his champion in a 336kg British Blue cross spring-born bullock from Messrs MacVicar, Lepinchapel, which made £1000 to JD Cowie, Nicholson Park, Banff. 
Mr Miller awarded the reserve ticket to an autumn-born heifer from Messrs MacInnes, Ruaig. Weighing 346kg, she sold for £990 to Messrs Paul.

STORE cattle met a sharper trade on the fortnight at Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart sale on Monday, where a pure Limousin heifer from KJ Burrow, Hacra, topped the sale at £1355.
Bullocks reached £1275 for a Limousin from the The Wath, while dairy types sold to a top of £1045 twice for two pens of four Holstein bullocks.

AN excellent show of lambs attracted more distant buyers at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 5091 store lambs at Longtown on Tuesday, where a top price of £77 was paid for Suffolk crosses from Clarghyll, Alston.

SOLD through United Auctions’ end of season sale of lambs and sheep at Islay on Monday, were 2105 head where all classes met a sound trade and lambs averaged £46.37 (+£2.10 on the last year). 
Topping the price per head in the lambs at £66.50 were Suffolk crosses from Foreland Estate, while a similar pen from Octofad sold for 168p per kg. 
Texel cross ewes from Blackrock led the ewes at £70.50.

A SMALL show of cast cows and store cattle sold through Wallets Marts’ on Monday, where heifers reached a top of £940 for a pen of Charolais from Straith Estates, Moniaive. 
OTM cattle reached £985.33 for an Aberdeen-Angus cow from H Taylor, Moss-side, Dalbeattie, and 133p per kg twice for the same from Moss-side and F Farries, Castlegower, Castle Douglas.
