A LIMOUSIN cross heifer from Craig Malone, Pitcairn, Cardenden, Fife, scooped the overall championship at Caledonian Marts' Christmas show and sale of prime cattle at Stirling, last week.

Weighing 540kg, this home-bred animal sold for the top price of 350p per kg to the judge, George Jarron of Scott Brothers, Dundee.

Reserve champion was a Limousin cross bullock from Stephanie Dick, Westerton, Cowie, Stirling, which scaled 548kg and also sold to Scott Brothers for 340p.

In all, bullocks averaged 230p while heifers cashed in at 237p.

Also sold on the day were 112 cast cows and bulls, where 112 cast cows and bulls averaged 122p and reached 192p for a Limousin from Croy Cunningham, Killearn, and £1500 for the same from R Graham and Son, Airthrey Kerse, Bridge of Allan.

Dairy types levelled at 101p and peaked at 137p from WJ Colquhoun, Rossbank, Arden, and £970 from R Denholm and Son, Wester Lochdrum, Dykebrae.
