Carlisle
SOME 1028 store cattle, bulls and weaned calves were forward for Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly Wednesday sale, which saw a top price of £1410 paid for a Limousin cross bullock from JD Bowman, Croft House, Scale Houses.
Among the heifers, trade reached £1355 for a Limousin cross from G Wilkinson, Arkleby House Farm, Arkleby. 
A couple days later the company sold a mixed offering of cows and heifers with calves at foot, which included four dispersal and reduction sales. 
Trade reached £2800 for a Limousin cross cow with Limousin-sired bull calf from Messrs Stevenson and Son, Lower Langshaw. 
Messrs Cartmel, Raise Lodge, sold a British Blue cross heifer with Limousin cross bull calf to £2450, and heifers with calves from Messrs Johnson, West Wharmley, peaked at £2400 for a Limousin cross heifer and bull calf. Normande Limousins, Cowford Farm, sold the top priced Limousin bull at £2520. 
On Monday, the company sold 645 store sheep where lambs peaked at £89.50 for Dutch Texels from Messrs Armstrong, Town Head.

UNITED Auctions sold 280 bullocks to average 216.36p per kg and 184 heifers at 201.89p at its store sale last week, where bullocks topped at 244.1p for a 381kg Limousin cross from Humeston and £1410 for a 698kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Gairdun. 
Among the heifers, a 468kg Blonde cross from Knockeen made 229.7p while a Limousin cross weighing 590kg from West Park sold for £1260.
The 32 black and white bullocks cashed in at 140.71p and sold to 164.1p for a Holstein Friesian cross from Gateside, and £950 for another from South Brackenridge. 
A show and sale of cast cows (245) saw the top cross beef cow, a Simmental cross from Messrs MacInnes, Ruaig, top the trade at £1530 and 189p per kg, with that £1530 matched by a continental from Drumoider. The 245 cast cows sold to average 132.96p, while dairy cows (32) averaged 97.53p, having peaked at at 114.90p and £915 for Friesian crosses from East Bangour.

A MIXED show on offer resulted in a lower average at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 203 store cattle, where Limousin crosses from Auchentoul Farms, Kinbrace, led the price per kg at 271.9p for a 228kg heifer at 262.5p for a 240kg bullock. 
Per head, a 538kg Simmental heifer from Wellhouse, Beauly, topped at £1200, with bullocks to £1190 for a 600kg Limousin cross from Balaggan, Inverness. 
Young bulls reached 242.4p and £570 for Shorthorns weighing 198kg and 278kg, respectively, from 387 Elphin, Lairg. 
A selection of breeding cattle reached £1750 for a Limousin cross cow with Limousins-sired calf from 25 Camult Muir, Beauly. 
Prime and feeding cows (84) sold to 188.7p for a British Blue from Shewglie Farmers, Glenurquhart, and £1190 for another from 15 Glenconon, Portree.

Oban
ONE of the largest ever followings of buyers were present at United Auctions’ Oban centre, where 808 cattle sold at the annual Christmas show and sale which was judged by James Nisbet, Sorn Mains. 
His champion was a 332kg Limousin cross bullock from Messrs MacGillivray, Barcaldine Home Farm, which later sold to Mr Nisbet for £1350 or 407p per kg to lead the bullock entry. 
In reserve was the second prize mainland bullock from D MacDonald, Tyree, which later sold to Andrew Morton, Lochend, at a weight of 334kg. 
Heifers reached £1380 for British Blue crosses from Creagan, and well as 377p for Limousin crosses from Low Dunashery. 
Bullocks cashed in to average 237.96p per kg or £662.29, while heifers levelled at 214.29p or £899.87.

HARRISON and Hetherington held its fortnightly sale of store cattle at St Boswells, where bullocks averaged 213.4p per kg and heifers cashed in at 208.8p. 
A top price of £1060 was paid for a Simmental cross from Shawbraes, while Charolais cross heifers from Messrs Bell, Brothwickbrae, made 266p. 
The 1000 store lambs met a buoyant trade and reached £74.50 for Suffolks from Belford on Bowmont.

TOP price per head at United Auctions’ sale of 101 store cattle, suckled calves and OTM cattle at Huntly, last week, was £1320 for a Simmental cross bullock from Wester Leochel, Craigievar. 
Leading the pence per kg section at 240.7p was a 295kg Limousin cross bullock from Craighall, Cairnie, while heifers sold to 229.6p for a 270kg Charolais cross from Wester Elchies, Aberlour, and £1220 for the same from Wester Leochel.

SELLING through Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ last week was 110 bullocks which averaged per kg and 104 heifers which cashed in at 227.9p. 
Among the bullocks, two Aberdeen-Angus crosses from Armadale Farm, Armadale, sold for 242.2p and a 666kg Charolais from Westerton of New Rayne, Insch, made £1380.
The 104 heifers peaked at 227.9p for a pair of Charolais crosses from Whitehouse, Lumphanan, and £1150 for a 528kg Limousin cross from Mill of Gellan, Coull.  
Among the Orkney and Shetland cattle, bullocks sold to 224.7p for a 476kg Charolais from Netherskaill, Birsay, and £1370 for a pair of 724kg British Blue from Cleat, St Ola, while heifers reached 212p for a 430kg Limousin from Finistigarth, Balfour, and £1150 for a 550kg British Blue from Netherskaill. 
An offering of 81 breeding cattle reached a top of £2020 for a Simmental heifer with bull calf at foot from Woodlands, Dingwall.
Store lambs met a keen demand at the firm’s sale of 2849 store lambs, breeding and feeding sheep, when they peaked at £69.50 for Texels from Belniden, Strathdon, with island lambs to £82 for Beltex from Strathore, Shapinsay. 
Zwartbles from Breckany, Urquhart, led the small sale of ewe lambs to £70.50 with island sheep to £63 for continentals from Hammerbrake, Sanday.

ON Monday, Caledonian Marts sold 280 store cattle and suckled calves, which saw bullocks cash in at 229p per kg and heifers at 206p. 
Top price per kg was 285p for a Charolais bullock from J McLaren, Murrayshall, Cambusbarron, with heifers selling to 245p for the same from Craigievern, Balforn Station. 
Leading the gross section at £1090 was a pen of Limousin bullocks from J Brownlie and Co, Inchgall, Lochgelly, while Limousin heifers from A and M Gray, Craighead, Torrance, made £1010. 
Among the black and white bullocks, they averaged 154p and sold to 160p from Messrs Paterson and Sons, Stonehouse, Kirkcaldy, and £880 from T and W Stoddart, Garelwood, Lesmahagow. 
Breeding cattle (48) peaked at £1350 twice firstly for an in-calf Limousin cow from Glenside Farms, and a Simmental cow from A McKay, East Borland, Denny. 
Also sold were 670 store lambs and feeding ewes, where short keep lambs were keenly bid for with long keep lambs proving harder to cash. A top price of £71 was paid for a pen of Suffolks from D McKendrick, No 5 Tomaig, Campbeltown.
