Carlisle
A GOOD entry of 377 store cattle met a strong trade at Harrison and Hetherington, last week, where a Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle, topped at £1455.
Heifers reached £1230 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Ritson, Baggra Yeat, Wigton, while dairy types were easily sold and peaked at £1055 for a pen of Friesians from Messrs Neill, Thonington, Mindrum.
A smaller show of 175 weanlings sold to £1020 for a British Blue bullock from Messrs Threlkeld, Baileytown, with bulls to £1010 for a Limousin from Whitewall and heifers to £970 for a British Blue from The Bog.
On Monday, a smaller show of 605 store sheep saw Mule lambs from Messrs Nichol, Dykecroft, Newcastleton, top at £80.

Stirling (UA)
CHAROLAIS cross cattle  from Gateside led the price per kg trade at United Auctions’ store sale, last week, when a 275kg bullock realised 287.3p per kg and a 235kg heifer made 253p.
Another Charolais cross bullock, this time weighing 626kg from Middleton, led the gross trade at £1260 while heifers also reached £1120 for a 564kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Victoria.
Bullocks (327) averaged 215.63p with heifers (249) at 202.71p.
The 47-strong entry of young bulls averaged 211.52p and was topped by Simmental crosses at 288.9p for one from Drumgrange and £970 for another off Drumoider.
Dairy bullocks (31) levelled at 131.24p, having peaked at 188.9p from Meikle Camoquhill and £840 from Grougar Mains.
Among the cast cows, 187 beef types reached 203p for a Limousin cross from Carslae and £1450 for a Charolais cross from Midlock. They averaged 126.89p.
Dairy sorts (37) averaged 90.81p and sold to 131.6p from Claughlands and £825 from Drumbuie.
Also forward were 9960 store lambs and feeding sheep at the annual Martinmas sale for Blackface lambs which recorded an 86p increase on the year to average £46.84, better than other breeds as Suffolks levelled at £53.16 (-£6.23), Texels averaged £95.80 (-£2.34), with Beltex at £69.83.
The sale reached £78 for both Suffolks from Mount Pleasant and Texels from Kilpatrick, with the Blackie entry to £75 from Rhodders.

Ayr
STORE cattle continued to sell well at Craig Wilson’s sale of 218, last week, where Charolais from Mains of Tig led the price per kg at 264.7p for bullocks and 252.8p for heifers.
Limousins topped the gross trade at £1220 for a bullock from Laigh Tarbeg and £1190 for a heifer from Gass, Straiton.
Averages included 114 bullocks at 212.8p or £810.61 and 90 heifers at 205.4p or £811.44.
A weathered show of 896 store lambs met a similar trade to the previous fortnight and topped at £79 for Suffolks from Smithston, Patna.

Thainstone
QUALITY cattle were easily cashed at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 393 store cattle, last week, where Charolais crosses led most sections.
They hit tops of 262.5p per kg for a trio of 360kg bullocks from Strocherie, King Edward; 232.8p for a 408kg heifer from Westerton, Echt; and £1060 for a heifer from Mains of Towie Barclay, Auchterless.
However, it was three Aberdeen-Angus cross bullocks from Midtown of Haddo, Inverkeithny, that led the gross trade at £1395.
Among the Orkney and Shetland cattle, bullocks reached 220p for a pen of 300kg Charolais from Califf, Gott, and £1185 for a 586kg Limousin from Braewick, Eshaness.
The island heifers sold to a top of 215.7p for a pair of 482kg Charolais from West Brough Farms, Sanday, and £1165 for a 560kg Simmental from Yarpha, Orphir.
The company also sold 3828 sheep, where store lambs met keen rates as the 812 lambs from the islands topped at £84.50 for Texels from New Moan, Harray, with the mainland consignment of 150 lambs sold to £73 for Beltex from Mains of Allanbuie, Keith.
Feeding ewes and rams (1949) sold to £145 for continental rams from Collieston, Fordoun, and the 17 island sheep hit £59.50 for Blackface from Hammerbrake, Sanday.

A MIXED show of store cattle and sheep sold well at Darlington Farmers’ Mart on Monday, where store cattle peaked at £1400 for a bullock from Angela Clark.
Heifers hit £1200 from JH Johnson, with store bulls to £1015 from M Webster.
The 110 cast cattle peaked at 193p per kg for a young Limousin cow from JG Brown, Old Hall, and £1388 for a pure Limousin cow from M Suddes, Towdy Potts.
The 581 store lambs sold to £88 twice from F Hartley and Sons.

LAWRIE and Symington sold 74 store cattle, on Tuesday, where a British Blue bullock from W Stewart and Son, Newton of Inshewan, topped the gross trade at £1200.
The 41 bullocks, which averaged 216p per kg, also reached 243p for an Aberdeen-Angus from R Shaw and Son, Dunlappie.
Averaging 206p, the 33 heifers reached £980 for a pen of four Limousins from RC Lang, Cortachy Home Farm, and 215p for a pair of Limousins from the same home.

THERE were buyers from as far south as Colchester at C and D Auction Marts on Tuesday, resulting in a strong trade throughout the sale of 3002 store lambs and feeding ewes and Longtown.
Lambs sold to £80 for a Texel from North Synton, Ashkirk, followed by Beltex from Greenwell Meadows at £74 with feeding ewes (72) to £72 from Ballaseyr  Stud.
Also sold were 18 store cattle which reached £1180 for a Charolais bullock from Borthwick Brae Farms, while heifers sold to £870 for British Blues from Devenport Farms.
