LINCOLN Red bulls proved the most popular of the other breeds on offer when one from Andrew Mylius topped at 7000gns, followed by others at 4500gns and 4000gns.

Selling for that 7000gns to Lincoln-based breeders, HM and JM Needler, Ranby Grange, Market Rasen, was St Fort Valient, an August, 2016-born son of the noted Wragby Minstrel, which has produced many show and sale leaders for Andrew's herd at St Fort, Newport on Tay. Valient's dam line boasts home-bred genetics as St Fort Mary M879 is a daughter of St Fort Harry.

At 4500gns, EW Jolly takes the Perth Show any other breed champion, St Fort Vortex, home to West Mains of Turin, Rescobie, Forfar. Born five months earlier than his byre mate out of the St Fort Guv'nor daughter, St Fort Hetty N954, his sire, St Fort Squire, has had semen exported to Canada, Australia and the USA. Mr Mylius sold three Lincoln Red bulls to average £5425.

Dearest of the Hereford offering was John and Margaret Cameron's Baldinnie 1 Denver, a show winner from the husband and wife duo's herd at Balbuthie, Kilconquhar, Leven. This September, 2015-born son of the past Polled Bull of the Year, Dorepoll 1 499 Einstein, is out of Baldinnie 1 Dom Lass 13, herself a daughter of the well known Baldinnie 1 Orient. He heads to work at West Mains, Tullibardine, Auchterarder, for F and D O'Shea.

With three Hereford bulls selling to average £4235, the second top price of 3500gns was paid by the Airds at Glenurquhart, Cromarty, for W Andrew's Arranview 1 Roulette. His pedigree includes Knockmountagh Chief 2 on to the Parkhill Pompeii-sired Arranview 1 Rebecca, in the Auchincruive, Ayr-based herd.

The sole Luing bull on offer, Robert and Hazel McNee's Finlarg Vegas, sold to the Scottish Government Bull Stud, in Inverness, for 3000gns. Bred from one of the top classified cows in the breed, the Benhar Dynamite-sired Benhar Bonus K19, Vegas is sired by Benhar Lennox, a regular breeder of high priced bulls for the duo at Over Finlarg, Tealing, Dundee.
