A SMALLER show of 370 store cattle met a sharper trade to previous weeks at Harrison and Hetherington, where a pen of three British Blue heifers from Messes Twentyman, Osborne Farm, Wigton, topped at £1500.

Bullocks reached £1395 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle, with dairy bullocks to £1090 from Messrs Harrison, Dundraw, Wigton.

Again, a smaller show of 267 weanlings were good to sell, peaking at £1230 for pure Limousin bulls from Messrs Cowx and Son, Hudscales. Limousins topped the other sections at £1050 for a pure heifer from Messrs Cleasby, Linden House, and £1000 for a cross bullock from Messrs Martin, Hesleywell.

UNITED Auctions sold 1228 store cattle and young bulls at Stirling last week, where 748 bullocks averaged 223.95p per kg; 30 dairy-bred bullocks averaged 155.26p; 414 heifers levelled at 215.85p and 36 young bulls averaged 211.69p.

Trade reached 248.90p for a 436kg Limousin cross heifer from Bankswood, with bullocks leading the gross trade at £1400 for a 699kg Simmental cross from South Brackenridge.

Heifers also peaked at £1230 for a 580kg Charolais cross from Balgreggie and bullocks to 264.50p for a 242kg Limousin cross from Gleniron.

Dairy-bred bullocks topped 147.55p for a Holstein cross from Claylands and £955 for a Holstein Friesian cross from Nyadd.

Averaging 136.81p, the 70 cast cows reached 191.90p for a British Blue cross from Claylands and £1490 for a Limousin cross from Binn. Dairy cows (23) peaked at 147.55p for a Holstein Friesian from Claylands and £955 for a Holstein Friesian from Nyadd.

ALL classes sold dearer on the week at Craig Wilson's sale of 523 store cattle last week, where 291 bullocks averaged 220.5p per kg or £940.96 and 190 heifers levelled at 216.5p or £925.53.

Top price per head was £1440 paid for a Charolais bullock from Martnaham Mains, while a pen of Charolais from Eskechraggan made 260.1p.

Bullocks also sold to 259.8p for a pen of Limousins from Ballykillet, with heifers to £1200 for a pair of Blondes from Knocknee.

A pen from Helentongate topped the 42 bullocks at £955 and 164.7p to average 149.7p.

The company also sold 448 store hoggs where a better show for quality and a larger ringside of buyers resulted in a sharper trade. Topping the sale at £66.50 was a pen of Texels from Messrs, Lamont, Shutterflat, Beith.

BULLOCKS (100) averaged 228.86p per kg at United Auctions' store sale last Thursday, with 121 heifers levelling at 218.62p.

Topping the gross at £1280 was a Limousin cross bullock from Easter Newton, Lumphanan, while top pence per kilo was 275p for a 320kg Charolais cross from Cushlachie.

Bullocks also sold to 271p for a 295kg Shorthorn cross from Bainshole, Huntly, with heifers to £1140 for a Charolais cross from Weetyfoot, Grange.

The 20 OTM cattle levelled at 127.17p and reached £1200 and 185p for a Limousin cross from Nether Clochforbie, Fisherie.

A TREMENDOUS show of natural, well-bred cattle met a brisk demand at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of store cattle last week, where averages increased on the week.

The 576 bullocks which averaged 237.5p (+3.9p) topped at 309.9p per kg for a pen of five 242kg Charolais from Auchness, Dallas and £1440 gross for a 760kg Limousin from Westerton of New Rayne, Insch.

Heifers (421) levelled at 231.7p (+15.2p) and peaked at 273.4p for a 384kg Limousin from Rorandle, Monymusk and £1370 gross for a 606kg Limousin from Pittenkerrie, Glassel.

A pen of four 248kg Charolais from Hawkhill, Auchenblae, topped the 23 bulls to 246p, with a 622kg Limousin from Gaskbeg, Laggan, realising £1260.

Of the Orkney and Shetland cattle, a Charolais weighing 664kg from Langskaill, Rousay, topped the gross trade at £1390, while a pair of 500kg Charolais from Braebuster, Deernes, made 255p.

Heifers sold to 254.5p for a trio of 450kg Charolais from Braebuster, and £1300 for a pair of 538kg Simmentals and a pair of 568kg Charolais from West Brough Farms, Sanday.

Also sold were 2623 store sheep, where Suffolk cross gimmers from Westside, Forglen, topped the 67 grit ewes at £128.

Store hoggs (1465) again met an excellent demand, reaching £89 for Cheviots from Deanshillock, Orton, while 267 island hoggs peaked at £88 for Beltex from Mossbank, Burray.

The 791 feeding sheep and rams sold to £140 for pure Texels from North Dorlaithers, Turriff.

ANOTHER good show of store cattle sold to a full ringside of buyers at Mitchells Auction Company's sale last Friday.

Top price was £1185 for a British Blue cross from AJ Wood, Woodhall Brow, Dean, while heifers reached £1125 from the same home.

Younger types also met a strong demand, topping at £1075 for a yearling heifer from WB and SA Steele, Easthwaite, Wasdale, with yearling bullocks to £1065 for a pair from J Todd and Sons, Low Eskholme, Ravenglass.

A Limousin from J and HD Langcake, Sandhills, Bassenthwaite, topped the young bulls at £1125.

Among the breeding cattle, all classes were well bid for and peaked at £1280 for an Aberdeen-Angus and bull calf from Hudson Place.

STRONG store cattle forward at Dumfries on Monday were easily bid for when 73 bullocks averaged 212.3p per kg and 65 heifers levelled at 200.3p.

Bullocks topped the gross per head when a Charolais from Annefield made £1225, while heifers sold to £1140 for a Charolais from West Lanegate.

Also on offer were 12 Holstein bullocks which averaged 142.1p and 34 bulls which levelled. Top price among the bulls was £1005 for a Limousin from Bankswood.

The company's small show of calves met a strong demand and peaked at £495 for an Aberdeen-Angus bull calf from Guillielands.
