SOME 10 lots of dairy cattle sold for more than £2000 at the two-year anniversary sale to mark auctioneers' Hassall Brothers and Barbers' joint venture at Market Drayton.

Since the collaboration, more than 3500 animals have passed through the weekly sales, with most sold in the form of dairy dispersals.

The anniversary attracted an entry of just shy of 50 milking females where heifers sold to £2380 for Burgedin Loaded Nancy, from TG Phillips and Co. She calved down at the end of February, is giving 29litres per day and was purchased by RA and AR Williams, Wrinehill, Crewe.

Burgedin Matto Tracy, a similarly aged fresh heifer giving 30litres from the same home, then made £2300 to BG and MA Elkin and Sons, Hilderstone.

The Elkins were one of the biggest buyers, going to £2250 for another milking heifer, this time from Malcolm Jones, Middleton, and £2220 for the reserve champion, Hawksmoor Dott 88, a young cow that calved mid January and is giving 50litres, from RJ Clare.

Unregistered heifers peaked at £2240 from JKT Jones, Westbury, purchased by Oakley Farming, Dorrington.

By the end of the day, milking heifers to include all breeds and unregistered, levelled at £1668.57, with cows in milk at £1446.67.
