TWO bulls sold for 5000gns apiece to lead the offering of British Blues at Newark, at a sale which included both pedigree and commercial cattle. 

First to sell for that price was Gail Ellis' Trencrom Lord of the Dance, a May, 2016-born son of Bavan Empire bred from the Almeley DJ-sired Trecrom Go Go. This predominantly black bull heads to work at Kirkcowan, Newton Stewart, for A and S Baillie. 

Gail sold a further two bulls for 4000gns each, including the Strawberry Field Hokowase-sired Trencrom Lord Gill which sold to HJ Brooks and Son, and Trecrom Lux, another Bavan Empire son which was knocked down to Roger and Tom Elliot, Kislingbury, Northamptonshire. 

Matching the top price of 5000gns was Solway View Limited Edition from Scottish breeder, Kevin Watret, from Annan, Dumfriesshire. His Limited Edition, sired by Gitan du P'Tit Mayeur and out of one of the herd's noted females, the Baron du Bois Bauloye-sired Broomfield Vivien, found a new home with IR Appleton, Elwick, Hartlepool. 

Hitting the 4500gns mark was W Laight's Witham Bank Javelin, a 2014-born son of Lennie van het Caloenhof is bred from the Janvier 8515 de Warichet-sired Witham Bank Ebony. Forking out the cash was C Stancombe and Son, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. 

A third realised 4000gns when S Pilkington's Bear Dale Logan, a Henlli Wishmaster son, sold to Gail Ellis. 

Entries from Gai's Trencrom herd were in the money in the female section too when Trencrom Ladybird, another by the Hokowase sire, sold to Ben Sharpe, Essex, for 4000gns. She is out of the Boherard Cantona-sired Trencrom Hot Shot. 

Mr Sharpe snapped up two more Trencrom heifers, Trencrom La Di Dah and Trencrom Lady L, for 3000gns apiece. 

At 3500gns, Kevin Watret saw his Colos Van Daisel-sired Solway View Lottie, which was also bred out of Broomfield Vivien, sell to JL Marks, Bishopton, Stockton on Tees. 

One more realised 3000gns when Hooton Lilac from the Seels family sold to GL Potter, Stratford Upon Avon. 

Held on the same day for the first part of the Baldwin family's commercial Limousin herd, which peaked at 3000gns for Norman Henrietta, a Claragh Franco daughter with her Blue-sired heifer calf at foot which sold to AI Wilkinson, Rochdale, Lancashire. 

The Wilkinsons also paid 2800gns for Griseburn Isla, a Carmorn Copilot daughter with a Blue cross bull calf, and at the same price was Coachhouse incandescent, a Rachels Ferrari daughter with Blue-sired heifer calf which sold to G and S Gilleard, Thorne, Doncaster.  

The commercial bullock and heifer section peaked at £2800 for a Limousin cross heifer from the Baldwin family, selling to CJ Harris, Peters Marland, Devon. 

Messrs Holmes, Lincoln, sold a British Blue heifer to TS and ND Stevens, Worth Wells, for £2500, while bullocks reached £1460 for a Blue cross from the same home selling to Todd Farms, East Torrington. 

Averages: Main sale – 12 British Blue bulls, £4005.83, 19 British Blue heifers, £2674.21. Baldwin dispersal – 32 Limousin cows with calves at foot, £2210.93. Commercial entry – 172 commercial heifers, £980.58; 140 commercial steers £1028.71.
