AN offering of 918 Aberdeen-Angus and native-bred cattle sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts' Thainstone Centre, on Tuesday, where Angus cattle met an electric trade throughout.
Averages included 516 Angus bullocks at 247.6p (+4p on the year); 209 Angus heifers at 225.3p (+2.8p); 140 native bullocks at 222.1p (-7.6p); and 53 native heifers at 201.7p (-17.1p). 
The show of Angus cattle was judged by Hugh Gordon and Hugh Gordon jnr of Clochnahill, Stonehaven, who picked out a 23-month-old bullock weighing 510kg from RJF and JM Seatter, Elsness, Sanday, as their champion. He later sold for £1420 to GA Reid, Mill of Haulkerton, Laurencekirk. 
The reserve champion, a 24-month-old heifer weighing 668kg from J and A Strathdee, North Retannach, Rothiemay, topped the heifer trade at £1470 when sold to Emslie Partners, Little Barras, Fordoun. 
Topping the gross per head at £1500 was a pair of 596kg Angus bullocks from Sauchentree Methlick, while top price per kg was 285.7p for a pen of seven 350kg Aberdeen-Angus crosses from Braebuster, Deerness. 
Angus heifers also peaked at 270p for a 426kg Angus cross from Braehead, Cairston. 
Among the native cattle, bullocks topped at 257.6p for a 330kg Beef Shorthorn from Pittenkerrie, Glassel, and £1310 for a similar pen of four weighing 614kg from Elsness, Sanday. 
The heifers realised 239.5p for a 380kg Shorthorn cross from Drumsleed, Fordoun, and £1260 for another weighing 546kg from Elsness, Sanday.
