A small but select show and sale of newly calved heifers forward for the fortnightly dairy sale at Skipton, saw trade peak at £1980 for the champion.
Sale leader was Sammy Sugden's home-bred heifer, Brontemoor Zebra Sooty from Dobfield Farm, Laycock. She is by the Genus sire, Lynncrest Zebra, out of Grinkle Rollsroyce Sooty, and sold 18 days calved and giving 28litres to regular buyer, Richard Sutcliffe, of Queensbury.
Reserve was Peter Baul's Ravensgate Fantasmic Heather 362, from the Ravensgate pedigree herd from Bishop Thornton. This similarly aged heifer giving the same amount of milk is by De-Su Fantasmic, and sold to Brian Blezard, of Ribchester, for £1880.
Mr Blezard also paid £1950 for the third prize 18 days calved 35-litre heifer, Aireburn Homestead Martha, from Brian and Judith Moorhouse’s pedigree herd in Bell Busk. She is by Bomaz Homestead.
By the end of the day, newly calved heifers averaged £1832.
