LARGE entries in all departments met a fast-selling trade throughout Skipton Auction Mart's spring shows of store cattle and beef feeding cows, which was judged by Brad Thompson, Middleton, pickering.

Tapped out as champion was the first prize heifer, a home-bred 13-month-old British Blue cross from Brian Lund, Walshaw, Hebden Bridge. Sired by a Welsh bull from Rhys Millichap's Rhymill herd, she was the second calf out of a Limousin cross cow and topped store offering at £1400 when sold to John Wood, Trawden.

The entry of 546 stores attracted increased bullock numbers and peaked at £1340 for a pen of six Galloway cross Limousin stots from Tom Boothman, Linton.

All bar one of the 11 breeding outfits sold into four figures, hitting £2100 for a Limousin cross heifer with Limousin-sired bull calf at foot from James and Deborah Ogden, Austwick.

The exceptional turnout of 222 young bulls levelled at £1028, peaking at £1390 for a Limousin cross, while the 55 feeding cows reached £1460 for the third prize winner in the show, a British Blue from John and Gill Huck, Hubberholme.
