SELLING on the same day as the multi-breed sale of bulls at United Auctions' Stirling centre, was a selection of 208 commercial breeding cattle which included a show of Simmental-bred females on behalf of the Scottish Simmental Club.

It was an entry from John McAlister, West Thomaston, that topped the trade when a Limousin cross heifer with heifer calf at foot realised £4900.

Craig Malone, of Pitcairn, continued a good run at breeding sales, selling the top priced cow and calf outfit to £3500 for a British Blue cross cow and her heifer calf, with that price matched by a Limousin cross heifer and bulls calf.

Simmental genetics were to the fore of the bulling heifer offering, with 19-month-old entries by a home-bred bull from Dorothy Moffat, Innerwick, peaking at £1750. Dorothy also won first and second prize in the Simmental cross bulling heifer class, as judged by Tom Howden, Stanley, with similarly-bred pens of four that went on to realised £1550 and £1520.
