Averages: Four senior bulls averaged £3648; 19 intermediate bulls, £3686; 22 junior bulls £2803; 27 maiden heifers £1666; four cows in-calf or with cows at foot £2887.

Centre records were smashed at a pedigree Limousin show and sale of bulls and females at Skipton, when father and son team, Jim and Ian Handley, sold a bull for 8500gns.

The duo who own the Gunnerfleet herd based at Chapel Le Dale, received this money for the January 2017-born bull, Gunnerfleet Neptune, a son of the 40,000gns Plumtree Fantastic that has bred sons to 35,000gns.

Junior male champion at the pre-sale show and a full borther to an 8000gns bull sold in 2014, Neptune is out of the Tango-bred Gunnerfleet Fullrose and sold to Calderdale farming twins, David and Stephen Hollings, buying for their commercial enterprise at Spinkshill, Pecket Well, Hebden Bridge.

The Handleys who run 50 pedigree cows also sold the second top priced bull at 5500gns. This was Gunnerfleet Murc, a November 2016-born son of the 17,000gns Maraiscote Graffiti, bred from the Nenuphar grand-daughter, Goldies Imagination. Murc found a new home in Hambleton with Peter Cowton, of Helperby.

Two bulls made 5,000gns to include the first prize senior and reserve male champion from Procters Farm, Slaidburn. Procters Mutineer ET, a two-year-old is by the Rossingnol-sired, Haltcliffe Doctor, and bred from the Sarkley Volt daughter, Bankdale Erin. West Yorkshire father and son duo, John and William Clayton, of Wyke, Bradford, forked out the cash.

Also making 5000gns was the two-year-old Whittaker Hall Mario, a Wilodge Flyer son from Red Rose breeder Robert Howard, Guide, near Blackburn. Mario is out of the Ballinloan Rascal cow, Griseburn Forgetmenot, and returned to Lancashire finding a new home in the Ribble Valley with the Spence farming family in Whitewell, Clitheroe.

The champion, Arradfoot Madagascar, from Thor Atkinson, Newland, Ulverston, made 4800gns selling to J Layfield and Sons, Crook, Darlington. The breeding behind this transaction includes the Wilodge Vantastic son, Newton Freeman, onto Gunnerfleet Fortunas.

Judge Andrew Ewing of the Fairywater herd from Annan, found his reserve overall in the female champion from Danny Sawrij, Kedzlie Farm, Blainslie, Galashiels. Swalesmoor Mhairi, a rising two-year-old heifer is by the Ronick Hawk son, Dinmore Goldeneye, and bred from the 10,000gns Miscombe Blackbird. She was purchased by local buyer, Jan Feather, Sutton-in-Craven, for 3600gns.

Heading up the female section at 4200gns was the reserve section winner from James and Sarah Cooper’s Tomschoice herd at Hill Top Farm, Dacre, Harrogate. Their eight-year-old Tomschoice Fiesta, by Brontemoor Aceofspades and out of Tomschoice Allegro, sold with November-born Kaprico Eravelle bull calf, and served to Milbrook Dartagnan, to A Glew, of Brighouse, Bradford.
