Hottbank Muckle Man lived up to his name at Harrison and Hetherington’s recent sale of Whitebred Shorthorn and Galloway cattle when he achieved the top price of 3000gns for John Pattinson, Hottbank, Bardon Mill, Hexham, Northumberland.

The pre-sale Whitebred Shorthorn champion is a son of Blackburn Jethro and bred from Hottbank Lucy 29th, which goes back to Blackburn Marshall. This April 2021 born bull was knocked down to Messrs Haggas, Bell Busk, Skipton, North Yorkshire.

Top-priced Whitebred Shorthorn female made 1600gns for Lee-Anne Oliver, Cawfields, Haltcliffe, Northumberland. This six-year-old cow, Corrie Ruby 15th, is a daughter of Corrie Gladiator, out of Corrie Ruby 11th, she was bred by Keith Laurie. She sold in calf to Murtholm Parky, with her March-born heifer calf, Cawfields Emerald – which is sired by Longley Talisman – to Messrs Wall, Brendon, Lynton, North Devon.

Top priced among the Galloway cattle of 2100gns was paid for the pre-sale champion, Ben Lomond Flower from Duncan Maxwell, Blairvockie, Rowardennan, Drymen. This April 2021 born heifer is a daughter of Zonda of Kilnstown and bred from the Carslae Eddie sired-dam, Ben Lomond Zaltana. Messrs Strang Steel and partners, Hawick, took this girl home in calf to Barlaes Trooper.

The same home was sold by the same sire, Ben Lomond Fern, for 2050gns to Messrs Ryall, Upper Seagry, Chippenham. This similarly aged heifer is again in-calf to Trooper, this time out of Ben Lomond Coneflower.

The best from John Tullie, Fenwick, Haysike, Hawick, made 2050gns, which came in the form of the two-year-old heifer, Bowanhill Kathleen 131st. A daughter of Yorkshire of Kilnstown, she is bred from Bowanhill Kathleen 120th, which goes back to Strictly of Fingland. This girl was sold in calf to Ben Lomond Endeavour, which was purchased at Castle Douglas last year for 10,000gns. She now heads to Dumfriesshire with Messrs Robertson and Son, Langholm.

Non-pedigree Galloway cattle sold for £1900 for the first prized bulling heifer from JW Forester and son, Smithsteads, Bewcastle, Carlisle. The final bidders were Messrs Wallace, Hexham, Northumberland.
