Two bulls sold for a centre record price of 11,000gns at the annual show and sale of Charolais at Welshpool Livestock Market.
First to hit this price was the pre-sale champion selected by Lanarkshire judge, Andrew Clark of the Teiglum herd. He found his champion in Wissington Trent, a 21-month-old son of Wissington Observer from John and Jenny Rix of the Wissington herd, Essex. Trent is out of the Thrunton Hammerstein daughter, Wissington Nicole, and sold to E Vaughan, Staffordshire.
Matching that price was the second prize 17-month-old, Esgob Tattoo from GM Jones of the Esgob herd, Gwynedd. This son of Solwayfirth Peterpan is out of the Goldstar Gentleman-sired, Esgob Nen, and sold to Messrs Williams and Partners, Mid Glamorgan.
The 18-month-old red ticket holder, Waldencourt Trojan, sold next at 7800gns. Consigned by S Hookway, Gloucestershire, Trojan is bred from Waldencourt Opotki, a daughter of the 19,000gns Corrie Alan, and sired by popular AI bull, Balthayock Musketeer. The final bidder was RE Dawson of the Dawson herd, Leicestershire.
