Carlisle
A SMALLER entry of 178 store cattle met a strong trade at last week’s sale through Harrison and Hetherington, where a Limousin bullock from G Wilkinson, Arkleby House, topped at £1270. 
Leading the heifer entry at £1160 was an Aberdeen-Angus from J Fishwick and Son, Thornship. 
Some 218 weaned calves met a sharper trade, peaking at £1210 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields. 
Heifer calves reached £1100 for a Limousin from Clegg and Bennett, Tongue House, with bullocks to £990 for a Simmental from Pedder Hill. 
Selling through the centre on Monday was a small but select show of store lambs which saw Greyfaces from Park Head top the sale at £73.

Stirling (UA)
STORE cattle hit a top of 263.2p per kg for an Aberdeen-Angus cross bullock weighing 228kg from Highfields at last week’s sale through United Auctions. 
Bullocks (212) also reached £1310 for a 626kg Limousin cross from Deerpark and cashed in to average 212.83p, with the 38 dairy bullocks averaging 129.01p having peaked at 137.7p and £730 from Kilburn. 
Levelling at 200.75p, the 231 heifers sold to 250p for a 280kg Limmy cross from Welton of Creuchies and £1250 for a 694kg Simmental cross from Stirches Mains. 
An Angus cross from Lorabar led the cast cows at 155.6p with a Limousin cross from Whitrighall at £1650. 
They levelled at 112.44p for the 185 cows sold, with 20 dairy cows averaging 89.92p having sold to 102.5p from Waterside and £765 from Norrieston. 
Forward cattle (32) averaged 152.32p and sold to 206.5p for an Angus cross from East Moneyacres and £1430 for a Charolais cross from Netherton. 
Also forward were 105 breeding cattle which peaked at £1550 for a Limousin cow with calf from Baytarsin. 
There were 6880 store and feeding sheep forward at the annual Blackface Martimas sale, where all breed averages were up on the year – Blackies averaged £45.98 (+£2.18), Texels levelled at £55.79 (+£1.24) and Suffolks averged £59.39 (+£4.33). 
Leading the entry at £76 were Texels from Bower Park with Blackfaces to £66 from Glencairn.

A BETTER show for quality sold dearer on the week at Craig Wilson’s sale of 173 store cattle, last week, where 81 beef-bred bullocks levelled at 216.28p per kg or £936.48 per head, with 26 dairy bullocks at 139.31p or £556.15 and 66 heifers at 206.05p or £880.74. 
Leading the trade at £1260 was a Limousin bullock from Knockgerran with bullocks also reaching 246.5p for British Blues from Glendoune. 
Simmentals from South Ballaird and British Blues from Auchenbay led the heifer section at £1140 with Limousins from Mossend, Ayr, hitting 239p. 
Also on offer were 419 store lambs which were easily cleared and topped at £70 by a pen of Texels form Balluskie.

Thainstone
CHAROLAIS crosses from Auchness, Dallas, led Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ recent sale of 186 store cattle when a pair of bullocks sold for 289.2p per kg and a pen of four heifers weighing 238kg hit 273.1p. 
Otherwise, cattle from Suttie, Kintore, topped the gross trade in each section when a pair of 656kg Limousin cross bullocks realised £1315 and a 640kg Simmental heifer sold for £1290. 
In all, the 123 bullocks averaged 210p with the 59 heifers at 205.8p. 
Also forward were 2498 store lambs, island and feeding sheep, where store lambs were short of buyers’ requirements. 
The 1081 store lambs sold to £69.50 for Texels from Lost Farm, Strathdon, and the 625 island sheep reached £67 for Suffolks from Bigton Farm, Bigton. 
Feeding ewes and rams (792) sold to £115 for Texels from South Gariochsford, Rothienorman.
