Forfar
LIMOUSINS from Nethermyres led Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 18 prime cattle, last week, when a heifer sold for 253p per kg and a 616kg bullock made 234p. 
A 644kg Blonde cross bullock from the same home topped the gross trade at £1481.20 while heifers also reached £1384.98 for a 563kg Limousin heifer from Mill of Inverarity. 
Overall, the 13 heifers averaged 232p with five bullocks at 234p. 
A mixed show of 395 prime lambs averaged 152p (-15.2p on the week) and sold to 197.7p for a 43.5kg Beltex from D Smith, Scobshaugh, and £98 for a 50kg Beltex from D and E Stewart, Mains of Dalrulzion.
Texel ewes from both A Robertson, Over Baldinnie, and Mains of Dalrulzion topped the 218 cast sheep at £100. 

Huntly
LAMBS continued the national trend and were harder to cash at United Auctions’s sale of 881, last week, where Texels topped. 
They reached 179p per kg for a 37.5kg pen from Kylieford, Kennethmont, and £88.50 for a 56kg pen from Croftdhu, Tomatin. 
Cast ewes and tups (697) reached £98 for Texel ewes from Davmor. 

Dumfries
A SMALL show of prime cattle peaked at 208p per kg for a Charolais cross heifer from Millhill, Lockerbie, at C and D Auction Marts last week. 
OTM cattle met a sharper trade to top at £971.70 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Whitehall and 125p for a Montbelliarde from Knockeggerick. 
Trade was no sharper for the 1001 prime lambs on offer, with tops of 186p paid for Texels from Skipmyre and £85 for more of the same from Shieldhill. 
Cast sheep (332) topped at £109.50 for Texel rams from Nether Garrel House, with ewes to £101.50 for Suffolks from Cleughbrae. 

Stirling (Cal)
A LIMOUSIN heifer from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, topped the sale of 135 prime cattle and young bulls sold through Caledonian Marts, last week, when she was knocked down for 245p per kg. 
The same home sold a bullock for 240p, a price matched by a stot from TH Gray, Balquharrage, while D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, sold a bullock from £1561.28 and a heifer for £1466.30. 
Bullocks averaged 212p and heifers levelled at 210p, while young bulls averaged 186p and sold to 210p from AF Thomson and Sons, Lammerview, and £1388 from WR Thomson, Cairnbeg. 
The 108 cast cows reached 153p for a British Blue from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, and £1270 for a Charolais from J Christie, Nethercarse. The 112 beef types averaged 112p while dairy cows averaged 95p and reached 110p and £910 from J and I Wilson, Carskerdo. 
Trade peaked at £101 for a duo of Beltex cross lambs from Doune Farms, West Lundie, and 229p for a pair of Beltex weighing 41.5kg from JB Guthrie, Cuiltburn, at the firm’s sale of 1927 prime lambs on Tuesday, where they averaged 173.7p (+13.89p on the week). 
Also forward were 564 ewes which cashed in to average £62.14, with all classes dearer on the week. Top price was £136 for Texels from Threeview, while tups sold to £123 for Beltex from A Morton, Lochend. 

Stirling (UA)
SOME 2840 prime lambs sold through United Auctions, last week, at the firm’s Christmas show and sale which was judged by James Scott, of John Scott Paisley. 
Mr Scott awarded the championship ticket to a pen of 10 Beltex crosses from Willie Stevenson, Coilavoulin, which he later secured for £121 per head or 269p per kg, the top prices of the day. In reserve was another pen of Beltex crosses, this time from Robert Cockburn, Errol Enterprises, which went on to sell for £109. 
Overall, lambs cashed in to average 162.06p. 
The 2011 cast ewes and rams sold to £133 for Texel ewes from Clova Farms. 

Thainstone
PRIME cattle sold to a top of 236p per kg for a Blonde heifer weighing 500kg from Waterside of Forbes, Alford, at Aberdeen and Northern Marts, last week, with the same home leading the bullock trade at 216p with a 645kg Limousin.
Per head, cattle reached £1462.80 for a 690kg Limousin bullock from Mains of Dumbreck, Udny, with heifers to £1369 for a 740kg Simmental from Netherton, GLenlivet. 
Averages were back on the week as 16 heifers levelled at 206.8p (-6.2p) with nine bullocks at 202.9p (-0.7p).
A Simmental from Midtown of Glass, Huntly, topped the cast cows at 173.4p and £1370. Beef cows (187) averaged 122.9p and 10 dairy cows levelled at 105.7p. 
Averaging 163.8p (+7p) for 1125 with 519 SQQs at 175.6p (+7.9p), prime lambs sold to 194.2p for 43kg Texels form Kirkland, Forgue, and £110 for 62kg Texels from Rowland, Holm. 

Longtown
A STRONG show of 6096 prime lambs sold similar on the week at C and D Auction Marts, last week, where SQQ lambs were cheaper and heavier lambs gained ground. 
The sale topped at 253p per kg for Beltex from Messrs MacIntyre, Ballantrae, and £104 for Texels from P Musgrave, Sowerby Wood. 
A large show of 5047 cast sheep saw all classes sell £5-£6 dearer on the week. They reached £156 for Texel ewes from Beckfoot. 

St Boswells
PRIME bullocks (28) averaged 204.8p per kg (-8.1p on the week) and sold to a top of 239p from Wester Ulston at Harrison and Hetherington on Monday.
The 30 heifers levelled at 210.5p (-8.7p) and peaked at 238p from Bee Edge. Top price per head was £1410 from Saultoun Home Farm. 
Cast beef cows (70) averaged 122.2p and sold to 185p from Blythebank, Brockholes, and to £1322 from Deanfoot. 
Also sold were 1906 lambs which levelled at 165p (-1p) and sold to a top of £95 for Suffolks from Lee and 215.4p for Beltex from Crookston. 

Ayr
ALL classes sold well at Craig Wilson, on Monday, when Beltex weighing 47kg from D Howat, Enoch, topped the prime lambs at 200p per kg and £94.
Beltex from Muir (Watson) also realised £94 and the 1114 lambs on offer averaged 170.1p (+11.1p on the week). 
Selling sharper on the week were 484 cast ewes and tups which levelled at £54.11, with Beltex ewes from CA Smith, Burnockstone, selling to £134. 

Dingwall
LIMOUSINS from Drummond Farm, Evanton, topped Dingwall and Highland Marts, on Tuesday, when a 655kg bullock made £1414.80 and a 545kg heifer realised 220p per kg. 
Overall, the six bullocks averaged 206p (+2.6p on the week) with 29 heifers at 209.8p (+0.5p).
New season lambs (722) averaged 169.8p (+12.6p) and hit a top of 186.4p or £82 for 44kg Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge. 

Carlisle
At Harrison and Hetherington, on Monday, a Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Wilson, Bowscale Farm, sold for £1606.87 and another of the same breed from Messrs Fawcett, Silver How, sold for 218.5p per kg. 
Heifers peaked at £1354.73 for Messrs Bainbridge, Raine House, and 232.5p from Messrs Norman, Little Orton. 
A larger show of 2716 prime lambs met a sharper trade on the week. Averaging 179.19p, they reached £113.80 for Texel crossess from Messrs Browell, Quarry House, and 291.4p for Beltex from Messrs Little, Hollands. 

Castle Douglas
SELLING through Wallets Marts on Tuesday were 1628 prime lambs and 375 cast sheep, where prime lambs averaged 172.64p (SQQ 178.62p) and sold to a top of £108 or 248.8p for a Texel lamb from A Kerr, Fagra.
