Forfar
PRIME cattle reached 254p per kg twice at Lawrie and Symington, last week, for a 610kg Charolais bullock and a 545kg Limousin heifer, both from Nethermyres. 
Bullocks also reached £1557 for a 618kg Limousin from the same home while heifers sold to £1548 for a 654kg Limousin from Gask. 
In all, eight bullocks sold to average 230p while 21 heifers levelled at 235p. 
A Texel from B Findlay, East Balgillo, topped the sale of hoggs at £104 with more Texels from Scobshaugh at 216p per kg. The 610 hoggs on offer averaged 167p with SQQs at 176p. 
Texels from Shandford topped the 131 cast sheep at £108 per head.

Dumfries
HANDY weights met a brisk trade at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 16 prime cattle, last week, where a Limousin heifer from R Neill, Upper Tinwald, topped the entry at 220.5p per kg. 
Some 79 cast cows saw 48 beef types average 128.7p and sell to 182p for an Aberdeen-Angus from Balmakethar and £1462.60 for a Charolais off Carterton. 
Dairy cows (31) levelled at 104.5p, having peaked at 139p for a Friesian from East Gallaberry and £1079.15 for a Fleckvieh from Rockhallhead. 
Quality hoggs were scarce as 733 sold to a top of 206p for Beltex from Drumcork and £85 for Texels from West Skelston. 
A Suffolk tup from Carsegowan led the cast sheep at £98.50 with ewes to £95.50 for Texels from Tower. 

Huntly
BEST quality hoggs were short of buyers’ requirements at United Auctions, last week, where 1157 sold to 185p per kg for a 35kg Beltex from Huntly Lodge, Huntly, and £86.50 for 55kg Texels from Clashnoir, Glenlivet. 
Cast sheep (816) reached £120 for Texels from Braehead. 

Thainstone
CATTLE from Waterside of Forbes topped Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of prime cattle, last week, when a 600kg British Blue bullock made 230p per kg and a 530kg heifer sold for 229p. 
Per head, trade reached £1490 for a 745kg Limmy bullock from Middleton of Potterton, Potterton, with heifers to £1419.60 for a 780kg Charolais from Honeybank, Auchenblae. 
The 27 bullocks levelled at 197.7p (-8.2p on the week) with 31 heifers at 202.9p (no comparison). 
The 202 cast beef cows on offer averaged 129.5p, having reached 186p for a Charolais from North Towieturner, Auchterless, and £1455 for a Limousin from Backhill of Thornton, Bortie. 
Also on offer were 1818 prime hoggs which averaged 160.7p (-2.7p) with the 742 SQQ hoggs at 173.8p (+2.2p). 
They sold to 207.3p for 41kg Beltex from Newton of Crathie, Ballater, and £89 for 49kg Beltex from Sheep Park, Bridge of Marnoch.

Stirling (Cal)
A GOOD show of 178 cattle was on offer at Caledonian Marts, where handy-weighted prime cattle were short of requirements. 
Selling for the top price of 242p per kg was a Limousin heifer from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, with heifers also reaching £1613 for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees. Heifers averaged 214p. Bullocks levelled at 208p and sold to 240p for a Limmy from Brockwoodlees and £1540 for another from Learielaw.
Averaging 122p, cast beef cows reached 155p from J Brisbane, Westwoodlane, and £1290 from J and N Kerr, Bankhead. Dairy cows averaged 100p having sold to 126p and £1070 from WA Hume and Co, Easter Clune. 
Selling through the firm on Tuesday were 1473 prime hoggs which averaged 171.6p (+4.7p on the week). Beltex from Doune Farms topped at 211p with a Texel cross from J Whiteford and Son, Hilltarvit Mains, at £100. 
In the cast ring, 286 export ewes averaged £48.59 with 245 heavies at £77.21. They sold to £116 for Texels from Nochnary with tups to £113 from Remony Estate. 

Longtown
A MIXED show with a larger number of Blackface and Mule hoggs resulted in a lower prime hogg average at C and D Auction Marts.
The 5631 on offer levelled at 170p per kg (SQQ 175.8p), and sold to 264p for Beltex from Messrs Tiplady, County Durham, and £107 for Beltex from Messrs McKie, Finnieness. 
A large show of 4732 cast sheep reached £148 for heavy Texel ewes from Allanshaws with lighter types to £76 for Cheviots from Archbank. Texels from Huntington led the rams at £118. 

Stirling (UA)
PRIME hoggs averaged 163.8p per kg for 2892 sold through United Auctions, last week, where tops of 226p and £105 were paid for Beltex from Luckenburn. 
Cast sheep (1391) reached £100 for Texel ewes from West Park. 

Ayr
A SMALLER show of 1210 hoggs resulted in a dearer trade at Craig Wilson, on Monday, where hoggs levelled at 170.1p per kg (+3.4p on the week).
They sold to 202.2p for a pen of 45kg Beltex from James A Watson, High Tarbeg, and £95 for more of the same from Balcamie. 
Cast sheep (782) averaged £58.51, having peaked at £145 for a pen of Texel ewes from Holms of Caaf. 
On Tuesday, a small show of 11 prime heifers averaged 220.4p and peaked at 242p for a Limousin cross from R Gather, Mackiesmill, and £1351.40 for another from Borland. 
In the cast cattle ring, 20 beef cows averaged 121.17p and sold to 146.8p and £1020 for a Limousin from West Newton, while 112 dairy cows averaged 97.31p and sold to 126.2p from Kirkhill and £1080 from Raith. 

St Boswells
BULLOCKS averaged 213p per kg (-5p on the week) for 22 sold with 60 heifers at 217p (+5.7p) at Harrison and Hetherington’s prime sale on Monday.
Topping the entry at 242p was a heifer from Penston, while bullocks sold to 239p from Pathhead and West Ulston. Bee Edge topped the gross trade at £1492.80.
Averaging 165.5p (+1.5p), the 1657 hoggs sold to 198.8p for Texels from Howden and £95 for Suffolks off Threepwood. 
The 566 ewes saw heavy sorts average £67 and sell to £95 for Texels from Rawburn, while lighter ewes averaged £39 and sold to £67 for Cheviots from Leaderfoot. 

Lanark
A LIMOUSIN heifer weighing 576kg from David Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, topped Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 45 prime cattle at 246p per kg on Monday. 
Butchers cattle sold to average 233p and bullocks reached 228p from Oldhill. 
Cast beef cows (35) sold to £1275 for a Limousin from Greenshields Farm and 162.9p for a British Blue from Nether Abington. They averaged 126.9p while 29 dairy types levelled at 102.3p and sold to 130.6p from Moat Mains and £835 from Craigthorn. 
Of the 2557 prime hoggs, which averaged 166.7p, it was a pen of Beltex weighing 43kg from R and M Struthers, Collielaw, that topped at 219.8p with a pen of 52kg Texels from R Reid, Bengal, at £98 per head. 
Averaging £56.99, the 443 cast sheep peaked at £143.50 for Texel ewes from Robiesland. 

Dingwall
AVERAGES dropped on the week at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ recent sale of 12 prime cattle when 10 heifers levelled at 203.8p per kg (-5.6p on the week) and the two bullocks averaged 210p (-2.6p).
Topping at 214p was a 540kg Limousin cross heifer from Bridgend, Dingwall, and a 485kg Limmy cross heifer from Kinchyle, Scaniport. 
Per head, a 630kg Charolais cross heifer from Bridgend topped at £1285.20.
Also on offer were 1018 prime hoggs which levelled at 170.2p with 883 SQQs at 173.2p. Beltex crosses led at 202.5p for a 40.5kg pen from Findon Farms, Culbokie, and £90 for a 45kg pen from Torgorm, Conon Bridge. 

Castle Douglas
SELLING through Wallets Marts on Tuesday, were 1337 prime and 349 cast sheep. 
Hoggs sold sharper on the week to level at 168.9p per kg with SQQs at 175.63p. They reached 200p for export-weight Texels from Messrs Farries, Byrecroft, with a Texel from Messrs Walker, Mindork, at £100. 
Texels from Low Creoch, Gatehouse of Fleet, topped the cast ewes at £95. 

Newton Stewart
CRAIG Wilson sold 1399 prime hoggs to average 162.5p per kg on Wednesday. 
They peaked at 195.2p for 42kg Texels from B Corcoran, Viewfield, with two pens of heavy Texels from W McKie, High Threave, making £86.
The 532 Blackface hoggs levelled at 160.2p, having peaked at 171.4p from Garheugh Farm Partnership and £74 for heavies from G Campbell, Larg. 
Cast sheep (285) sold to £118 for Texel ewes from J Maxwell, Barledziew Cottage.
