GRAZING cattle sold to a fast selling trade and averages were well up on the year when 689 store and breeding cattle sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts.

Bullocks (402) were up by 13.7p on the year to level at 237.2p per kg while the 278 heifers rose by 20.7p to average 228.9p. 

Charolais crosses topped throughout, with three 332kg bullocks and three 340kg heifers from Bardnaclavan, Bridge of Westfield, selling for 280.1p and 279.4p, respectively, while a 713kg bullock from Brae Edge, Castletown, made £1460 and a 548kg heifer from Clatequoy, Thurso, realised £1220. 

A Limousin cross heifer with Limmy-sired heifer calf at foot from Old House, Borrowston, topped the nine breeding cattle at £1220.
