C AND D Auction Marts sold 456 cattle at its Kirkcambreck sale, where a strong demand for quality lots meant buyers were left short of requirements and the average improved by £67.42 on the year for 112 more cattle sold. 

A Charolais bullock from CJ and BA Thomson, Edenbank, led the trade at £1410, while heifers sold to £1110 for Limousins from Messrs Elliot, Hallburn Croft. 

In the native breed section, Galloway bullocks from Messrs Robertson, Becks, topped at £1135.
