Carlisle
MORE than 1000 cattle sold through Harrison and Hetherington,  where a catalogued entry of 350 store cattle along with 273 un-entered store bulls and stirks peaked at £1620 for a British Blue cross heifer from James Retson, Gardrum. 
Bullocks sold to £1295 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, and dairy cattle reached £940 for a pen of four from the same home. 
The 273-strong entry of weaned calves sold to £1190 for a British Blue heifer from Messrs Armstrong, High Tarns, with bulls to £1070 for a Limousin from Hetherside and bullocks to £994 for Limousins from Nether Locharwoods. 
On Monday, a large show of females and lambs met a strong demand throughout for all age brackets. Topping at £97 per life was a black Texel hogg and lamb from Messrs Ramsay, Dockray Hall, while the ewe section peaked at £83 for a Suffolk cross with Texel-sired lamb from Messrs Elliot, Brackenhow.

Dingwall
WELL-BRED and well-wintered ewe hoggs witnessed a strong trade at Dingwall and Highland Marts last week. 
The 2861-strong entry in the annual spring sale of hoggs averaged £57.39 and sold to £86 three times for Cheviot crosses from Inchbrae Farm, Garve and Keppoch Farm, and Dundonnell. 
Levelling at £47.03, the 980 wedder hoggs reached £80 for a cross from Rhevackin, Kiltarlity. 
A Beltex from Braes of Coulmore, North Kessock, topped the 223 ewes at £90 and the 63 rams and feeding sheep peaked at £82 twice for Texels from Achtuie, Drumnadrochit.

Ayr
STORE cattle sold dearer on the week with a plainer show of dairy-bred sorts on offer at Craig Wilson, where Limousins topped throughout. 
They reached £1325 for a pair of bullocks from Dykefield and 279.1p per kg for a pair of bullocks form Auchenairney. Heifers peaked at £1210 for a pen of four from Blairbowie and 257.8p for a pen of five from Middleton. 
Dairy sorts reached £930 and 197.9p from Carsloe. 
Overall, the 279 beef-bred bullocks averaged 239.9p or £908.76, with 153 heifers at 223.7p or £870.16, and 32 dairy bullocks at 142.6p or £601.72.
Also forward were 119 store and breeding sheep, where stores reached £67 for five Cheviot ewe hoggs from Dougerie Estates, Arran, and breeders hit £141 for a pen of Mules with twins by a Texel sire from Messrs Baxter, Gibbleston.

Thainstone
LIMOUSIN cross bullocks from Guise Farm Partnership, Tough, picked up the champion and reserve tickets at a show of sale of store cattle at Aberdeen and Northern Marts, last week. 
Judge Ian Thomson, Middleton of Potterton, picked out a 14-month-old weighing 518kg as his champion which he later bought for the top price of £1480. 
In reserve was a 19-month-old scaling 622kg which sold to Backmuir Trading, Keith, for £1400. 
Taking the heifer championship was a 532kg Limousin cross from J Cameron and Sons, Corse of Kinnoir, which also sold to Backmuir Trading, this time for £1280. The same home produced the reserve heifer which also sold to Backmuir Trading, this time for £1200 at a weight of 514kg. 
J McConachie and Son, Lethendry, produced the champion pair, a 448kg Limousin cross bullock duo that was knocked down to Reidhall Farms, Edzell, for £1180. 
Outwith the show, trade reaeched 360.4p per kg for a 308kg Limousin cross heifer from Lagavaich, Glenlivet, with heifers also hitting £1280 for a 532kg Limmy cross from Corse of Kinnoir, Huntly. Heifers (557) levelled at 240.1p (+10.6p on the week). 
Charolais crosses topped the bullocks at 311.7p for a 308kg pen from Olrig Mains, Castletown, and £1445 for one weighing 688kg from Stoneyhill, Longhaven. Bullocks averaged 237.3p (+0.1p) for the 942 sold. 
Also on offer were 2724 sheep of all classes where ewes with lambs at foot were a good show and met a strong trade. 
The 308 on offer reached £88 per life for a Texel cross wm ewe with lambs and a half from Bogiefeulach, Tornaveen.
The 264 ewe hoggs peaked at £85 for continentals from Hindstones, Boyndlie, with the same home leading the 829 store hoggs at £77.50, again for continentals. 
Island hoggs (94) sold to £63 for continentals Appiehouse, Harray, and the 1229 feeding sheep sold to £150 twice – for Texels firstly from West Knock, Mintlaw, and secondly from Milton, Durris.

STORE cattle met a total clearance at United Auctions' recent sale on Islay, where averages were up on the year across the boards. 
Bullocks were up £40.48 per head or 21.6p per kg to level at £872.53 or 241.83p per kg, while heifers rose by £47.43 or 19.9p to average £787.59 or 231.75p. 
Limousin crosses led most sections at £1330 for bullocks and £1110 for heifers, all from Mr Carmichael, Coillabus, as well as 385p for bullocks from Lossit. Heifers also reached 276p for Charolais crosses from Tallant.

SELLING through Aberdeen and Northern Marts' Quoybrae centre, on Monday, were 245 store and 38 prime hoggs as well as 75 feeding ewes and rams. 
Texels from Borrowston Mains, Thurso, topped the stores at £72 while prime hoggs peaked at 166.7p per kg for a pen of 36.3kg Cheviot crosses from Westerloch, Wick, and £79 for a pen of 50kg Texels from Brae-edge, Castletown. 
Brae-edge also topped the feeding sheep section at £92 for Suffolks.

Longtown
BUYERS remained keen and late rates were easily maintained at C and D Auction Marts' sale of 406 store hoggs and feeding ewes on Monday, where hoggs peaked at £70 for a Texel from New Farm, Beattock.
A larger show of 167 ewes with lambs created a great trade, particularly ewes with stronger lambs, and peaked at £78 per life for two-shear Texels with singles at foot. 
Also on offer were 52 store cattle where trade uphel recent high rates to top at £1030 for Limousin bullocks from Messrs Wigham, Hethermill, while heifers reached £990 for Limousins from Mrs J Gorton, Quarryfield. 
The cattle sale included a part-dispersal of in-calf cows from CA Grieve and Son, Snab Farm, Waterbeck, which sold to £1300 for British Blue and Limousin crosses.
