Carlisle
A GOOD entry in every section met a fast selling trade at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 939 store cattle and 264 weaned calves. 
The 494 stores were topped by Aberdeen-Angus crosses from Messrs Palmer, Longrigg Thorn, as heifers reached £1455 and bullocks sold to £1365. 
One of the best shows so far of weanlings saw the 445 reach £1160 for a British Blue bullock from Messrs Burrow, Lodges Farm. Bulls reached £1100 for a pure Limousin from Messrs Rome and Co, Niven Hill, and heifers hit £1095 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Browell and Sons, Quarry House.
On Monday, a larger run of breeding sheep met a mixed trade and topped at £89 per life for a pen of Texel cross hoggs with Beltex-sired lambs from Jack Cartmel, Raise Lodge.

Dingwall
STORE cattle sold at extreme rates as 429 bullocks averaged 245.1p per kg and 353 heifers levelled at 239.3p at Dingwall and Highland Marts last week. 
Limousin crosses led throughout as heifers peaked at 336.6p for a pen weighing 202kg from Drumgask, Laggan, as well as £1190 for a 535kg heifer from Castlecraig Farms, Nigg. A pair of 615kg bullocks from Udale, Poyntzfield, topped the gross trade at £1355 and bullocks also hit 319.1p for a 257kg pair from Trien Croft, Carbost. 
The 64 OTM cattle averaged 141.5p, having peaked at 201.8p for a Salers cross from Westfield, Thurso, and £1210 for a Limmy cross from Clury, Dulnain.

CHAROLAIS cross bullock led United Auctions’ sale of 2636 store and native-bred cattle, when one weighing 244kg from Boreland sold for 307.4p per kg and another weighing 716kg from Ruaidheabhal realised £1450. 
Heifers peaked at 290.8p for a 251kg Limousin cross from Dyke and £1420 for a Charolais cross weighing 680kg from Newhouse of Glamis. 
With 1180 heifers levelling at 29.1p and 1370 bullocks at 240.72p, the 74 dairy-bred bullocks averaged 158.09p having peaked at 172.1p and £945 for stots from Gatehead. 
Young bulls (12) averaged 241.7p and sold to 265.5p for a Limousin cross from Coalheughglen and £1110 for another from Airthrey Kerse.
Among the cast cows on offer, a Limousin cross from Graystale and a Charolais cross from Boreland topped at 207.3p and £1370, respectively, while dairy cows reached 144.2p and £1110 for a Friesian cross from East Bangour. Beef sorts (142) averaged 142.2p with 16 dairy types at 119.56p. 
Forward cattle (15) averaged 158.85p and sold to 191.2p and £1350 for a Charolais cross from Boreland.
Also forward were 547 store hoggs and breeding sheep, where Suffolks from Forneath topped the hoggs at £78 and breeders peaked at £196 for Mule gimmers with twins from High Branchal.

TWO entries sold for the top price of £1230 at Harrison and Hetherington, when a pen of Limousin bullock from Messrs McCorquodale, Crossflat, and a pen of Chaorlais heifers from Messrs Wardlaw, Haughhead, went under the hammer. 
Bullocks also reached 288.6p per kg for a Limmy from Messrs Dagg, Craighouse, and averaged £959.26 or 244.97p. Heifers levelled at £908.73 or 237.65p having also hit 283.6p for Limousins from Broom Farm. 
A small show of breeding sheep reached £148 for Mule ewes with twins from Inschkeith.

STRONG cattle were in particular demand at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 1922, where 1029 bullocks levelled at 240.8p per kg and 879 heifers averaged 234.6p. 
A top price per kg or 309.7p was paid for a pair of Limousin cross bullocks from Baillie, Bridge of Westfield, with bullocks also leading the gross trade at £1495 twice, for a pair of 706kg Limousin crosses off Crovie, Gamrie, and again for a 758kg Simmental from Deerhillock, Birse. 
Heifers sold to 291.7p for a pen of six Charolais crosses from Cairntack, Belhelvie, and £1420 for a 702kg Limousin cross from Crovie.
Averaging 255.6p, the 14 young bulls hit 255.6p for a 266kg Limousin from Happyhillock, Peathill, and £1135 gross for 548kg Simmental crosses from Suttie, Kintore.
Among the Orkney and Shetland cattle, it was a pair of 350kg Simmental bullocks from Upper Hobbister, Stenness, that topped at 250p with a 528kg Aberdeen-Angus bullock from Coldomo, Stenness, at £1190. Heifers reached 248.4p for a pen of 326kg British Blues from Maesquoy Farms, Harray, and £950 for a 406kg Luing from Hall of Clestrain, Orphir.
Also forward was a selection of 2500 sheep, where ewes with lambs were dearer on the week as 1629 peaked at £79 per life for Texel wm ewes with twins from 11 Raemoir Road, Banchoryy.
Store hoggs (356) sold to £72.50, and the 515 feeding sheep hit £110.50 for Suffolk ewes from Tillyeve, Udny.

A GOOD show of quality grazing cattle was presented to a good following of mainland buyers at United Auctions’ Lochboisdale mart. 
Bullocks averaged 231.4p per kg and peaked at 281p for Limousin crosses from 261 Daliburgh and £940 for more the the same from 44 Linique. 
Heifers reached 276p for Limousin crosses from 20 West Gerinish, £820 for more from 76 Ardnamonie, and averaged 226.5p. 
Cast cows sold to £1080 from Cnoc-An-Torr, 348 North Boisdale, and 146.8p from 136 Stiligarry. They averaged 123.52p.

SELLING through Caledonian Marts on Monday were 658 store cattle which saw a Limousin bullock from GS Stewart, Wester Whin, top at 296p per kg.
Bullocks also reached £1290 for an Aberdeen-Angus from R and W Moffat, Bowridge, and averaged 234p, while heifers levelled at 220p having peaked at 260p for a Limmy from B Bayley, Midton, and £1200 from W Crawford, Craigend. 
Averaging 149p, dairy sorts reached 161p from R Rodger, Knockraith, and £730 from W Baxter, Gryfeside, and bulls reached 218p an £970 for a Charolais from J McAdam, Callendoune. 
Some 511 store hoggs and ewes with lambs were on offer, where entries from AD Kinninmonth, Kinnighallen, topped at £66 per life for singles and £168 for twin outfits. 
Hoggs reached £70 for Texels off Over Shannochhill, and again for Cheviots from Murrayshall.

SUCKLER cattle were in demand and dairy-bred crossed also looked sharper at the sale of nearly 400 stores through C and D Auction Marts. 
Limousin bullocks from Mid Locharwoods topped at £1190, and bullocks also hit 267.7p per kg for Limousins from Backburn. Heifers reached £1155 for Aberdeen-Angus from Braehead and 279.7p for Limousins from Cormaddie.

THE largest show of the season so far was on offer at C and D Auction Marts when 1560 ewe and lambs outfits were sold and peaked at £75 per life for a pen of Texel hoggs with Beltex-sired lambs from East Mains Farming Co.
Many older Mule and hill ewes sold £2 to £3 cheaper on the week, as ewes topped at £70 twice. This was first paid for Texel crosses with singles from Michael Nicholson, The Lake, and again for a Suffolk cross with single from John Little, Eden Park.

HARRISON and Hetherington held its principal sale of ewes and lambs, were the entry of 544 peaked at £58 per life for Texel ewes and lambs from J Park, Oxen Park. 
Herdwick ewes with Texel cross lambs were in high demand, and sold to a top of £37.50 per life for a pen from Messrs Kirkby and Longworth, Sella Farm, Ulpha.
