A GOOD show of sheep at JA McClelland and Sons’ evening sale met a steady trade as ewes and lambs peaked at £235 for a Texel ewe with triplets from Thomas Bell, Randalstown. 
The following day some 300 store cattle peaked at £1495 and 245p per kg for a 560kg Aberdeen-Angus bullock from M Johnston, Toome, while heifers reached £1185 for a 540kg Parthenais from A Shaw, Larne.

Store hoggs (173) reached £75 for a pen of Cheviots from Upper Rosemount, Tain, while ewes (83) reached £83 twice for Cheviots from both Acharry Muir, Dornoch, and Calrossie Mains, Nigg.

Carlisle
AN entry of 520 store cattle at Harrison and Hetherington saw all classes sell well and to a top of £1480 for a pair of British Blue cross bullocks from Messrs Beatty, Durdar. 
Heifers peaked at £1290 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Johnstone, Low Flow.
A smaller show of 319 weaned calves peaked at £1090 for a 13-month-old Limousin cross bullock from EL, W and CA Johnston, Horsemoor Hill, with bulls to £1440 for Charolais from Airds of Balcray and heifers to £1060 for Limousins off Kedzlie. 
At Monday’s sale of breeding sheep, better outfits were in strong demand and peaked at £89 per head for a pen of Texel cross hoggs with Beltex-sired lambs from Jack Cartmel, Raise Lodge, Wigton. 
Ewes with lambs reached £78 for Texels from Kirtlebank.

A SOUND trade prevailed throughout United Auctions’ sale of cattle and sheep on Tiree, where bullocks levelled at 236p per kg and heifers averaged 239p. 
Topping at 296p were Simmental cross bullocks from 2 Heylipol with heifers to 284p for a Shorthorn cross from Grishipol, Coll. 
Texel cross hoggs from Heylipol topped the section at £90, with the same home leading the cast tup and ewe trade at £100 and £93, respectively.

UNITED Auctions sold 2154 store cattle last week, where 1058 bullocks levelled at 239.53p per kg, with 105 dairy bullocks at 161.64p and 991 heifers at 229.01p. 
Selling for the top price of 304.5p was a 312kg Limousin cross bullock from High Bent, with bullocks also hitting £1390 for a Simmental cross weighing 702kg from Drumrack. Holstein crosses from Auchnotteroch led the dairy bullock trade at 216.7p for one weighing 540kg and £1200 for another at 606kg. 
Among the heifers it was a 346kg Limousin cross from Townhead of Arngibbon that topped at 289p with another weighing 584kg from Airthrey Kerse at £1380. 
Cast cows met a good trade to peak at 212.4p for a Limmy cross from Classlochie and £1410 for a British Blue cross from Newton of Logierait. Beef cows (116) averaged 149.45p while 30 dairy sorts averaged 113.02p having peaked at 126.02p and £1090 for a Holstein cross from Carneil. 
A small entry of 547 sheep saw breeders reach £196 for two and three-crop Texel ewes with Texel-sired twins at foot from Nochnary, while hoggs reached £66.50 for Texels from Erisort.

A Simmental cross bullock weighing 230kg from Craig Estates Farms, Rhynie, topped at 300p per kg with the 179 bullocks, which averaged 245.6p, also hitting £1230 for a British Blue cross from Seggiecrook, Grange. 
A 565kg Simmental cross from Connachie, Kellas, topped the heifers at £1640 and 290.3p, as the 270 on offer averaged 235.5p. 
Levelling at 127.62p, OTM cattle reached 156.6p and £1490 for a Simmental bull from Corskie, Garmouth.

A LARGER show of 1077 store cattle met a similar trade at Craig Wilson, where 606 beef-bred bullocks averaged 235.6p per kg or £933.31, with 55 dairy bullocks at 158.3p or £748.45 and 416 heifers at 226.9p or £843.32.
A Limousin bullock from Barskelly led at £1375, with bullocks also hitting 317.4p for a pen of Charolais from Dalhanna Farming Co. Dairy sorts hit 184.1p from Laggan and £980 from Benston.
Heifers reached £1235 for a Limousin from Corsehillhead and 264.2p for a pen of Blondes from Brisbane Glen. 
Also forward was a show of 261 ewes, gimmers and hoggs with lambs at foot which met a sharper trade to the previous sale. Topping at £194 was a pen of Texel gimmers with twin Beltex lambs at foot from Hugh Dunlop, Holehouse.

ALL classes met a strong demand, particularly heifers with breeding potential, when Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 2457 store cattle last week. 
A special offering of 172 BVD virus free and vaccinated heifers averaged 264.8p per kg (+14.5p on the week), having sold to 351.9p for a trio of Salers crosses weighing 432kg from Darnford, Durris, and £1800 for a pair of 574kg Simmental crosses from Connacie, Kellas. 
A pair of Limousin cross bullocks from Ledmacoy, Strathdon, topped the regular sale at 320.6p, with the 1119 bullocks, which averaged 247.9p (+7.1p), also hitting £1570 for a pair of Aberdeen-Angus stots weighing 650kg from Layburn, Rendall. 
Levelling at 235.1p (+0.5p), the 1151 heifers reached 310p for a pair of Salers crosses from Essil, Garmouth, and £1480 for a pair of 512kg Simmentals from Braigiewell, Echt. 
Young bulls sold to 248.7p for a 378kg Limousin from Greenfield, Rothes, and £1130 for an Angus weighing 524kg from Silvermoss, Barthol Chapel. They averaged 226.5p for 15. 
Of the Orkney and Shetland cattle, bullocks sold to 289.4p for a pen of five Charolais weighing 342kg from Lower Hobbister, Stenness, and £1570 from Layburn. Heifers reached 281p for a 420kg Charolais from Norville, Norby, Sandness, and £1395 for a 650kg Aberdeen-Angus from Cockmurra, Holm.
Ewes and lambs (2355) met a similar trade to top at £68 per life for Texel gimmers with twins from 11 Raemoir Road, Banchory, while the 248 store hoggs peaked at £70 for continentals from Little Muddie, Lumphart. 
Feeding sheep (1045) sold to £130 for Texels from Tofthills, Clatt.

Hexham
MORE than 1010 store cattle sold at Hexham and Northern Marts’ recent May show and sale where the three-generation Robinson Family, of Bog Hall, took both the champion and reserve titles before selling the pair for £1400 apiece. 
Picked out by Edward Fawcett, Well House, Harbottle, the champion was a yearling British Blue heifer from Nicky, Ian and Harry Robinson, which Mr Fawcett later secured for £1400. The reserve was a Limousin bullock which sold for the same price to Gordon Amos, Market Harborough.
Selling for the top price of £1505, however, was two lots of Charolais heifers from Willie Woodman, Great Chesters, while bullocks reached £1500 for a Charolais cross from the same home.

STORE cattle sold more favourably on the year at United Auctions’ sale of 447 cattle and 238 sheep.
Here, bullocks averaged £825.10 or 271.62p per kg (against £802.77 or 250.93p last year) and heifers levelled at £757.16 or 252.02p (against £689.08 or 229.31p). 
Leading the entry at 342.9p were Simmental cross heifers from Kilvaree, with heifers also hitting £990 for Limousin crosses from Craig Farm. 
Bullocks sold to 329.3p for Shorthorn crosses and Luing crosses from Knockderry, as well as £1070 for two lots of Limousin crosses from Achnacreebeag. 
Blackface hoggs from Woodside Croft, Mull, sold to £70 and ewes with lamb at foot sold to £74 from Alavahl.

A MIXED show of store cattle saw top grazers sell at recent high rates at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 246 store and breeding cattle on Monday. 
Stores peaked at 275p per kg for a pen of Charolais cross heifers weighing 360kg from West Watten (Thomson), with the 119 store heifers, which averaged 230.2p, also hitting £1325 for a pair of 618kg Charolais from Aimster, Thurso. 
Bullocks (122) levelled at 231.7p having hit tops of 270.1p for a pen of 348kg Charolais and Salers crosses from Bardnaclavan, Westfield, and £1280 for a 595kg Charolais from West Lyth, Wick. 
A Limousin cross cow with her Charolais-sired stot calf from M Mackay’s dispersal from Buldoo, Dounreay, topped the five breeding cattle at £2400. 
Also on offer were 398 sheep, where the 53 breeders reached £112 for Texel ewes with lambs from Seaview, Oldwick. 
The 143 store hoggs peaked at £73.50 for Texels from Borrowston Mains, Thurso, and averaged £53.01, while the 115 prime hoggs reached 167.9p and £70 for a trio of 41.7kg Suffolks from Westerloch, Wick. 
Feeding ewes and rams (87) averaged £60.29 and sold to £105 for Cheviots from Overton, Mid-Clyth (Sutherland).

Darlington
THERE was no let-up in prices at Darlington Farmers Mart’s sale of store cattle, on Monday, which met a 100% clearance and a top price of £1380. 
Selling for that price was a 26-month-old Limousin bullock from D and J Hunnam and Sons, Rise Slowly Farm, Burnt Houses, while heifers reached £1270 for a 23-month-old Charolais from G and A Gibson and Son, South Road, High Etherley. 
The 149 bullocks levelled at £949 with 165 heifers at £867, while 58 store bulls averaged £879 having peaked at £1165 for 13-month-old Limousins from JR Fell, North Oxen Le Fields. 
A small entry of five cows with calves reached £1300 for a 10-year-old Limousin with her three-month-old British Blue-sired heifer at foot from BA and C Pearson, Stainsby Hill, Thornaby. 
Cast cows (124) met a strong trade to average above 130p per kg for what was one-quarter native breeds, one-quarter dairy breeds and the remainder continentals. A pair of Blondes from WA Wardman, Thrushwood, Yearby, topped the cows at 181p and 177p, and a Limousin from AT Bainbridge, Ash Dub, Ettersgill, made £1476. 
A pair of continental ewes with twins from W Brass and Sons, Low Broom Flats, led the 215 breeding sheep at £192, and the 57 store hoggs peaked at £81 from CB Wilkinson.

HEIFERS with calves at foot from Westpark led the sale of 295 store and breeding cattle at Lawrie and Symington on Tuesday. 
They reached £2150 for a Limousin heifer with Limmy-sired heifer calf as well as Simmental cross heifer with Limousins-sired stot calf. 
Store cattle reached £1300 for a Limousin bullock from Crieff and 284p per kg for a Charolais bullock from Runavey. The 125 bullocks averaged 242p. 
Heifers (165) averaged 233p and were topped by Limousins at £1270 from Sketewan and 264p from West Pilmore.

Longtown
IT was the first prize pen of Mule hoggs and lambs from Messrs Ridsdale, Yew Tree, as well as the third prize pen of continental hoggs and lambs from MT Watson, Four o Boot, that sold for the equal top price of £98 at C and D Auction Marts’ show and sale judged by Richard Walton, Hardstone. 
Also on offer were 377 store cattle and suckler calves which met a strong trade to average £164.11 up on the year. They topped at £1330 for the first prize Charolais bullock from FMI Gibson, Southwoodhead, while heifers reached £1255 for a Limousin from A and A Ewing, Dumbretton. 
Judge J Crichton, Loughrigg, picked out an 11-month-old Limousin heifer from IR Armstrong, Shankfieldhead, as his champion which later sold for £1220.
