UNITED Auctions sold 263 store cattle alongside 157 cast cows and forward cattle and 30 breeding sheep at their weekly sale, where a 241kg Limousin cross bullock from Little Pinkerton topped the store trade at 315.4p per kg. 
Bullocks also reached £1320 for a 622kg Simmental cross from Ancaster, to average 244.96p for 97. Dairy bullocks (39) levelled at 155p having hit tops of 182p and £910 for a 500kg Friesian cross from Ardgate. 
British Blue crosses topped the heifers at 284p for a 257kg entry from Easter Frew, and £1230 for another at 498kg from Farden. They averaged 231.61p for 127p. 
Cast cows peaked at 207.5p for a Salers cross from Graystale and £1530 for a Limousin cross off Ballinloan. The 123 beef types averaged 148.71p while 18 dairy cows averaged 116.2p having sold to 146.8p for a Holstein cross from Claylands and £955 for a Friesian cross from Wester Lochdrum. 
Cheviot ewes with Texel-sired twins at foot from Kinnaird, Findate, led the breeding sheep at £146.

FEEDING and prime sheep met a good demand at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 423 sheep, where 124 ewes with lambs sold to £123 for Texel cross ewes with Texel-sired lambs at foot from Tore Mains, Tore. 
Cheviots from Allt Nan Subh, Dornie, topped the 102 hoggs at £77 and Texels from Wester Cairnglass, Gollandfield, led the 165 ewes at £72.
Rams and feeding sheep (32) sold to £117 for a Texel ram from 12 Airdens, Bonar Bridge.

Carlisle
A SMALLER entry of 250 store cattle for Harrison and Hetherington's sale, met its dearest for some time, peaking at £1400 and £1390 for Limousin cross heifers from Messrs Lloyd, Fishergill. 
British Blue heifers from both Messrs Ferguson, Sandbed, and Messrs Hodgson, Green Farm, also sold for £1390.
Bullocks reached £1275 and £1265 for British Blues from Messrs Charlton, Crown Point, with Limousin crosses from Messrs Hutton, Church View, also making £1265. Dairy bullocks sold to £1215 for Montbeliardes from Church View. 
A large show of 282 weanlings peaked at £1120 for a British Blue heifer from Messrs Burrow, Lodges Farm, with bulls to £1100 for a Blue from Kinkry Hill and bullocks to £1070 for a Limousin from Maryland. 
A smaller show of ewes and lambs sold on Monday, where a top of £121 per life was paid for a pen of eight Texel cross hoggs with singles from Messrs Browell, Quarry House. 
The same home topped the trade per unit at £309 (£103 per life) with a pen of 10 Texel cross gimmers with twins, as well as the ewe trade at £83 with Texel cross ewes with twins.

Crooklands (J36)
MORE than 75 units were on offer at North West Auctions’ beef breeding cattle sale where a strong trade prevailed throughout.
Top price was £2050 paid for an entry from the annual consignment of Limousin-sired dairy-bred heifers with Limousin calves at foot from EJ Hodgson and Son, Lambrigg Head, Kendal. 
The annual consignment of British Blue heifers and Limousin calves from Colin Wilson, Witherslack, reached £1880, and the herd reduction on behalf of Derek Smith, Fell House, hit £1550 for an eight-year-old Salers cow with Charolais-sired calf at foot.
A small entry of store cattle met a brisk trade and sold to £1000 for yearling Limousin bulls from Messrs Hodgson, High Borrans. 
A shortage of cast cows resulted in a strong trade and an overall average of 118.05p per kg with dairy types at 107p. A Limousin from P and TL Edmondson, Kirkby in Furness, led the section at 169.5p or £1105.14.

Thainstone
SIMMENTAL cross females again led Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ recent sale of breeding cattle, at Thainstone, where a Simmy cross heifer with bull calf at foot from Wardes, Kintore, topped the trade at £2450. 
Two Simmental cross outfits – one from Drumgrain, Keith, and another from Auchtygall, Peterhead – led the cow section at £2100 apiece. 
Also forward were 280 store cattle and 1052 sheep of all classes. 
Simmental crosses also led most of the store cattle sections with a trio of 205kg bullocks from Crossroads, Rothiemay, making 286.4p per kg; a 578kg bullock from Lyne of Linton, Sauchen, selling at £1310; and a heifer weighing 556kg from Pickletillum, Deerness, hitting £1200.
Otherwise, the 134 heifers, which averaged 220.9p, sold to 267.5p for 228kg Charolais crosses from Crossroads, while the 130 bullocks levelled at 234.4p. 
The 16 young bulls peaked at 254.3p for a 348kg Limousin cross from South Crichie, St Katherines, as well as £1160 for a 572kg Aberdeen-Angus from Glassel House, Glassel. 
Among the Orkney and Shetland cattle, a pen of 374kg Aberdeen-Angus heifers from Orquil, St Ola, topped the trade at 255.3p with heifers also making £1200 for a Simmental from Pickletillum. 
Bullocks reached 246p for a 406kg Charolais from Trondheim, Rendall, and £1260 for a pair of 584kg Charolais from Northbank, St Ola. 
Ewes with lambs at foot (421) met a strong demand and were topped at £80 per life by Mule hoggs with twins from Mill of Fowlis, Alford. 
Store hoggs (28) reached £105.50 twice – for continentals from Kirkford, Premnay, and again for Suffolks from Newseat, Rothienorman – and Texel ewes from Weston, Deskford, led the 603 feeding sheep at £135.

A LARGE entry of store cattle continued to meet a strong trade at North West Auctions’ Lancaster centre, where Charolais bullocks from JA and LR Wilson, Millom, led the trade at £1470. 
Continental bullocks from the same home hit £1440 while Angus bullocks from GR and A Foy, Conder Green, topped the native entry at £1440. 
Heifers reached £1330 for British Blues from J and C Pickervance, Kirkham, with Angus heifers from JD and GM Bracken, Catterall, to £1300. 
Averaging 130.15p per kg, the 119 cast cows reached 189.5p from D and E Whitaker, Quernmore, and £1312 from JE Bracken, St Michaels.

CATTLE from Messrs Epps, Ardnave, topped United Auctions’ sale of 289 store cattle on Islay, where a good entry of quality stock sold to mainland buyers resulting in increased sale averages. 
Ardnave cattle led the trade at 331p per kg for Limousin cross bullocks; 284p for Blonde cross heifers; £1120 for Blonde cross bullocks; and £1030 for Charolais cross heifers. 
Overall, bullocks levelled at 249.15p or £918.74 (against 230.9p or £836.90 last year) and heifers averaged 243.58p or £820.69 (against 222.9p or £761.25).

A PLAINER offering upheld recent values at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 125 store cattle, where 60 bullocks averaged 223.6p per kg with 51 heifers at 214p and 14 dairy bullocks at 148.1p. 
Limousins from West Auchensheen led at 325p for heifers and 293p for bullocks. 
Limousin heifers from Kildarroch topped the gross trade at £1200 and bullocks sold to £1140 for Simmentals from High Auchneel. 
The June sale of breeding cattle saw 70 head peak at £2300 twice for Salers cross heifers with calves from Geordie Paterson, Kildarroch. Bulling heifers hit £1100 for a British Blue cross from Risk.

Stirling (Cal)
STORE cattle met the dearest trade of the season at Caledonian Marts’ sale of 432 on Monday, where Limousins from the islands led the pence per kg trade. 
They were topped at 302p for bullocks from Mrs C Noble, Creich, Fionnphort, Mull, and 256p for heifers from P McMillan, Eorabus, Islay. 
Leading the gross trade at £1300 was a bullock from T Young, Glencraigs, Campbeltown, with heifers to £1200 from JL Young, Haddockston, Houston. 
Bullocks cashed in to average 234p with heifers at 220p. 
Dairy bullocks levelled at 168p having peaked at 179p from I McMaster, Knocknain, Stranraer, and £880 from JB Taylor and Son, Blackburn Mains, Bathgate. 
Among the native cattle, a pen of Shorthorn heifers from S Bignal, Kindrochaid, Islay, led at 244p with heifers from Glencraigs at £1100, while bullocks sold to 243p for Aberdeen-Angus from C and I Herd, Easter Jawcraig, Falkirk, and £1070 from Knocknain. 
An offering of 21 breeding cattle saw Hereford heifers with bull calves from Parkhouse peak at £1900. 
Also forward were 151 ewes with lambs which sold to £165 for a pen of Texel cross ewes with twins from W Taylor and Son, Pirleyhill, Slamannan.

ALL classes of store cattle sold well through Lawrie and Symington's sale, where a Limousin cross bullock from R and J Hamilton, Dillars, Lesmahagow, led the offering at 246.7p per kg. 
Another Limousin cross bullock from T Walker and Sons, Netherurd Mains, topped the gross trade at £1290 while the same breed of heifers from RM Mccaskie, Cornhill, Biggar, led the heifers at 244.4p and £1100. 
A small offering of breeding sheep reached £167, £164 and £163 for Texel cross hoggs with Texel-sired lambs from T Lang, Pardevine, Rosewell.

BREEDING sheep met an ‘electric’ trade throughout C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 643 ewes and lambs, which met the strongest trade of the season. 
They peaked at £84.50 per life for a pen of two and three-crop Mule ewes with Texel-sired twins from Quarry House. 
Hoggs with lambs reached £84 twice – for Suffolks with singles from Messrs Milburn, Wallend, and again for Mules with singles from Messrs Brough, Seathill.

UNITED Auctions welcomed a large turnout of buyers which resulted in a buoyant trade at the sale of 115 store cattle, 20 cows with calves, 10 cast cows, 112 breeding sheep and 452 store hoggs and cast sheep. 
Heifers led the trade at 347p per kg for a British Blue cross from Tyree and £1180 for Simmental crosses from Ardencaple. Bullocks hit 326p for Limousin crosses from Glencreran Estate with more of the same from Achnaba at £1080. 
Breeding cattle sold to £1220 for cows with heifer calves from Ardmay, Tiree, with bulling heifers to £1180 twice for Simmental crosses from Ardencapple. 
Store hoggs peaked at £1010 for Mules from Barguillean and breeding sheep sold to £180 for gimmers with lambs from Tyree.
