PENRITH and District Farmers’ opening sale of 400 store lambs peaked at £70 for a pen of of 12 Beltex cross Texel lambs from LC Walton, Goodlie Hill Cottage.
Mule lambs were topped at £61 for a pen of 64 from W and HI Watson, Sanders Close.

A GOOD show of 533 store cattle and 299 weaned calves was forward for Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly sale of store cattle at Carlisle, where a top price of £1435 was achieved for a British Blue cross steer from Messrs Miller, Tarn Lodge, Brampton.
Top priced heifer at £1430 was a Limousin cross from Messrs Baxter, Eden Banks, Carlisle, with black and white bullocks selling to £1075 for a Friesian from Messrs Moscrop, Rye Close, Carlisle.  
Weaned calves sold to £1160, £1120 and £1100, for three Limousin bulls from Messrs Rome, Niven Hill.

TOP price at United Auctions’s sale of 589 store cattle was 310.90p per kg paid for a 238kg Limousin cross from Drumoider, or £1470 paid for a 636kg Charolais cross from Ashfield.
Drumoider also sold the lead priced heifer, a 325kg Simmental cross at 267.7p, while a 240kg Limousin cross from Cowans made £1230.
Black and white bullocks peaked at 192.6p for a 488kg Holstein Friesian from Tanhill, while a 587kg Friesian made £980 for Lindsayton.
Overall, 342 bullocks averaged 236.9p per kg, with 206 heifers cashing in at 227.6p and 39 black and white bullocks at 156.8p.
An Aberdeen Angus cow from Symington Mains led the entry of 137 beef cows at 197.2p per kg, while a Limousin cross from Loanhead of Duchally, produced the lead gross price at £1350. They averaged 133.82p.
Dairy cows (12) averaged 108.79p having sold to 161.90p for a Holstein from Overton and £885 for an entry from Meikle Camoquhill. 
On Monday, the firm’s sale of 5980 store lambs and feeding sheep saw most sections slip on the week. Beltex crosses averaged £67.41 (+£5.73p); Texel crosses levelled at £62.88 (-33p); 
Suffolk crosses at £62.55 (-£2.28p); Cheviots at £51.64 (-£3.43p); Mules at £53.27 (-£1.91p) and Blackfaces averaged £35.94 (-£1.56p).
Top price was £69.50 paid for Beltex cross lambs from Kirkton of Kingcoldrum.

BEEF breeding and store cattle met a buoyant demand at North West Auctions’ sale at Crooklands, Milnthorpe, where a lead price of £1420 was paid for a Charolais cow with British Blue calf from JS and KM Wilson of Helsington.   
In-calf heifers peaked at £1020 for British Blue due to an Angus from SJ and A Hargreaves.
Store cattle peaked at £1080 for a 27-month-old Blonde heifer from G Denny and Son, Johnscales and cast cows sold to £1360 for a 910kg Stabiliser from A Dixon and Son, Selsid.
Dairy types hit£1122 for an entry from AE and M Hayhurst of Natland.

A GOOD show of 64 beef cows with calves was forward for Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ breeding cattle sale at Thainstone, where a Charolais bull from Cairntack led the trade at £3800.
Only 180 store cattle were forward for the company’s weekly sale which saw 62 bullocks average 231.2p; 107 heifers level at 227.2p and 11 bulls cash in at 200.8p.
Bullocks sold to 270.6p per kg for a 340kg Limousin, from Bishopston, Kinellar and £1530 for a pair 720kg Simmentals from Netherton, Glenlivet, while heifers peaked at 265.4p for a 324kg Limousin from Braeside, Inverurie and £1505 for a 784kg Aberdeen Angus from Wester Achochkie, Advie.
Top price amongst the bulls was 215.1p and £925 paid for Aberdeen Angus crosses from Mid Mains of Balfour, Fettercairn.
Top prices amongst the Orkney and Shetland entries were 246.8p per kg and £1190 paid for three 482kg Charolais from AT Annal and Son, Myres, South Ronaldsay. Heifers peaked at 231p for a 456kg Charolais from the same home and £1350 for a 654kg Shorthorn from AW and D Thomson, Beafield, Sanday.
New season store lambs (165) and feeding ewes and rams (693) also sold well peaking at £78 and £109 for continentals from Balmore and Texels from Rowland, Holm, respectively.

Heifers sold to £1240 for a Simmental from AS and D Parker of Preston.  
Cast cows sold to a top 191.5p per kg for a British Blue from TE, JS and SA Carruthers of Underbarrow, with dairy types peaking at 174.5p from BW and J Robinson of Treales who also achieved the lead price per head at £1200.50.

Dumfries
BULLOCKS averaged 223.4p per kg and heifers cashed in at 209p at C and D Auction Marts’ fortnightly sale of store cattle at Dumfries.
Overall, 105 bullocks sold to 256.7p per kg and £1330 for British Blues from Cocklicks and Stannock, respectively, with the 93 heifers peaking at 240p and £1200 for another Blue from Cocklicks, and a Limousin from Drumcru, respectively.
The 16 Holstein Friesian bullocks averaged 148.6p, having sold to 216.2p and £950.
The dispersal sale of stock cows from Low Arvie, Corsock, saw cows with Aberdeen Angus heifer calves lead the trade selling at £1250, £1180 and £1140. Cows in calf to an Angus bull peaked at £960.

AT Caledonian Marts’ store sale of 478 cattle at Stirling on Monday, bullocks averaged 224p per kg and heifers cashed in at 220p.
Top price was 280p paid for Simmentals from Burnbrae, Gartocharn, or £1320 for a Simmental from Pendreich, Bridge of Allan.
Heifers peaked at 260p for Blonde Aquitaines from Strathavon, Slamannan and £1210 for a pen of Aberdeen Angus from Reivoch, Howwood.
Black and white bullocks averaged 168p having sold to to 194p and £910, from Lochnaw Home Farm, Stranraer.
A good show of 1997 store lambs saw averages improve £3.50 on the year to level at £61.05, having sold to £69 for Texels from C Hastie, Easter Gartfarran, Balfron Station.
Texel lambs averaged £63.67 (+3.01 on the year); Suffolk lambs at £63.87 (+2.03); Mules at £57.88 (+2.16) and Blackie lambs cashed in at £42.85.
