With more first calvers coming through, the Lawson family, who run the Newbirks pedigree Holstein herd at Arthington in Wharfedale, was back to claim their first dairy championship of the year and top price of £2000 at Skipton, on Monday.
Their winner, Newbirks Jazz 1710, a fresh heifer by the Genus sire, De-Su History, was paraded two weeks calved and giving 30litres. She sold to Brian Blezard, of Ribchester.
Mr Blezard also bought the second top priced cow at £1950, also from the Lawsons. This was another Jazz by another Genus sire, Matcrest Sham Charllie. She sold five weeks calved and giving 32litres per day.
With 23 head forward, newly calved heifers averaged £1640 and newly calved cows £1426.
