St Boswells
THE dispersal of Messrs Aynsley’s Wardshill flock of North Country Cheviots from the Lee at Morpeth, met a cracking trade at Harrison and Hetherington’s breeding sheep sale at St Boswells, achieving an overall average of £180 per head.
The event, which attracted a packed ringside of buyers from all corners of the British Isles, saw gimmers sell to £270 and one-crop ewes to £240, while rams peaked at £1450 for a Cheviot.
This week, the firm’s fortnightly sale of store cattle, saw bullocks average 221.26p per kg or £926.73 per head, while heifers levelled at 206.13p or £782.76.
The sale reached £1170 for Simmental cross bullocks from Messrs Girvan, Berryfell, with Limousin cross bullocks from Messrs Richardson, Bedrule, topping the price per kg at 242.3p. 
Heifers reached £995 and 229.9p for Limousins from A Douglas, Saughtree.

Dingwall
A MIXED show for quality sold at satisfactory rates when Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 39 breeding, 85 store and 31 OTM cattle. 
Breeders peaked at £1850 for a Hereford cross cow with Charolais-sired male calf at foot from Dunlighity, Farr, with the same home selling a Charolais cross cow with Whitbred Shorthorn-sired heifer calf for £1750. 
Among the stores, a 555kg Limousin cross heifer from Redhill, Allanfearn, led at £1220 with the 58 heifers, which averaged 206.3p per kg, also selling to 243.5p for a 345kg Charolais cross from Pitmain, Kingussie. 
Bullocks (27) levelled at 214p and sold to £1120 for a pair of 510kg Limmy crosses from Carrol, Brora, and 325p for a one-month-old Aberdeen-Angus cross bullock weighing 80kg from Proncy, Dornoch.
A pure Charolais cow from East Kirk, Wick, topped the 27 OTM cows at 162p while a Simmental cross from Ballone, Abriachan, made £1270. They averaged 136.1p.

Carlisle
HEIFERS led the trade at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 400 store cattle, when a Limousin from JD Faulder, Croft House, Cockermouth, and a pair of Limmies from JW Slack and Sons, Newby, Carlisle, all sold for £1350 apiece. 
Bullocks followed not far behind on £1345 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Graham, Cumdivock, Carlisle, and dairy types reached £1020 from Messrs Hebson, Town End. 
An entry of 228 weanlings peaked at £1090 for a Limousin cross bull from Messrs Graham, Kirkhouse Dairy, with bullocks to £1055 and heifers to £1015 for Limousins from Messrs Cousin, The Laws. 
On Monday a large entry of store lambs met a good demand for large pens, where trade peaked at £100 for a Dutch Texel from Messrs Gillhepsy, Tedcastle.
Breeding sheep reached £122 for Texel gimmers from Whitehouse.

Stirling (UA)
UNITED Auctions sold 1144 store cattle as well as 179 cast cows through Stirling recently, where a 322kg Simmental cross bullock from Greenhill topped the trade at 264p per kg. 
Bullocks (597) also reached £1320 for a 548kg Limousin from Mafflat and averaged 215.69p, while 148 dairy bullocks levelled at 150.56p and sold to 181.1p from Fineview and £1060 from Gateside. 
Charolais crosses led the heifer offering at 240.4p for a 312kg entry from Craigdhu, and £1170 for another weighing 519kg from Balegreggan. The 399 heifers cashed in to average 213.06p.
Among the cast cows, Limousin crosses topped at 203.2p from Carslae and £1430 from Whitrigghill. 
The 173 beef cows averaged 138.26p while 15 dairy cows averaged 120.49p and sold to 136.8p and £1190 from East Bangour. 
This week, the firm sold a catalogued entry of 9495 store lambs, breeding and feeding sheep, where most lamb averages were back on the week. 
The sale peaked at £135 for pure Texel ewe lambs from Nicol Drive, while the main sale of store lambs reached £70 for Texels from Dykebrae. 
Averages included Suffolk crosses, £59.97 (-31p on the week); Texel crosses, £57.20  (-£1.93); Beltex crosses, £62.15  (-£1.39); Cheviots, £53.09  (+£1.23); Mules, £52.38  (-£4.74); Blackfaces, £42.16  (-54p).

A WEATHERED show of lambs met a slightly cheaper trade when Craig Wilson sold 1039 to a top of £68 for a pen of Beltex from J Fergusson, Moyne, Glasgow. 
This was followed at £66 for more of the same from C Douglas, Shiel, Sorn. 
Also on offer was a 962-strong entry of store cattle which met a firmer trade when 544 bullocks averaged 219.4p per kg or £1007.43, with 315 heifers at 212.3p or £890.75, and 103 dairy bullocks at 147.8p or £660.15.
They peaked at £1350 for an Aberdeen-Angus bullock from Knockendale, with bullocks also selling to 253.3p for a Simmental from Bellslea. 
Heifers sold £1180 for a Limousin off Burnhouse and 252.5p for a pen of Limousins from Oldbarn.
Dairy bullocks sold to £965 from Auchinbay and 156.4p from Gabrockhill.

A LIMOUSIN bullock from Sheena Templeton, South Balfern, topped Craig Wilson’s sale of 141 store cattle when it was knocked down for £1210. 
The 64 beef-bred bullocks averaged £924.76 or 208.4p per kg, and also reached 251.4p for Charolais stots from J McGarvie, Auchneight. 
Heifers sold to £1150 for a British Blue from J Baillie, Low Glasnick, and 236p for another from W Gemmell, Holm. They averaged £885.91 or  204.7p. 
The 22 dairy-bred bullocks averaged £724.32 or 148.3p and reached £800 from H Parker, Inchparks, and 154p from H Young, Claunch.

ALL classes of store cattle met a brisk demand with strong cattle numbers short of buyers’ requirements at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 405.
They reached 296.1p for a Limousin cross bullock weighing 336kg from Pollowick, Cromdale, with the same home selling a 380kg heifer for 259.2p. 
Bullocks also reached £1515 from Wester Olrig, Castletown, while heifers also sold to £1350 for a 624kg Limousin cross from Roadside, Kirk. 
Overall, the 277 bullocks averaged 223.1p (+0.7p on the week) with 120 heifers at 219.7p (+0.8p). 
The eight young bulls peaked at 206.8p for a 440kg Limousin cross from Poolside, Rothiemay, and £1200 twice for Aberdeen-Angus weighing 798kg and 812kg Glassel House, Gassel.
 A varied show of store lambs saw top lots continue at strong rates as the main sale of 1141 peaked at £85 for Texels from Auchmar, Leslie. 
Consignments from the islands saw the 2318 from Orkney and Shetland reach £75 for Suffolks from Kjemlea, Uphouse, Cunningsburgh, while th 1646 from Lewis and Uist sold to £60.50 from 14 Baleshare. 
Continentals from Uppermill, Hatton, topped the 73 breeding sheep at £75. 
Feeding ewes and rams (547) sold to £111.50 for Beltex from Mains of Culsh, New Deer, and ewes from Lewis and Uist sold to £76 for Beltex from 2a Tong.

AT the second sale of sheep on Islay, United Auctions sold a total of 2706 where the lamb average dropped by £1.60 per head or 6p per kg, as the recent inclement weather was evident on some lots. 
Lambs reached £71.50 for Suffolk crosses from Lossit, and 184p per kg for more of the same from Octofad.

Quoybrae
A LARGER show of store lambs than usual saw the best sorts continue at recent rates at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’s Quoybrae centre on Monday. 
The 3188 stores levelled at £53.60, having peaked at £77 for Texels from Marlstone, Keiss, while ewe lambs (211) averaged £57.36 and sold to £120 for Cheviots from Lynton Cottage, Ulbster. 
The 393 prime lambs sold to 174.3p for a pair of 35kg Texels from Mossburn, Geise, and £75 for a pair of Texels weighing 55kg from Portskerra (O’Brien).

WEATHERED cattle were harder to cash but best sorts were a good trade when C and D Auction Marts sold 141 store cattle to a top of £1180 for an Aberdeen-Angus bullock from B and K Sloan, Stainton House. 
Heifers reached £1090 for British Blues from J Irving and Son, The Stubb. 
Also forward were 25 cow and calf outfits, where a British Blue cow with Shorthorn-sired bull calf from A and E Park, Harley Rigg, topped at £1620.
