QUALITY cattle were forward at Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly sale of store cattle and weaned calves, which attracted a large ringside of buyers and entries of 891 and 216, respectively.
Trade reached £1390 for a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Cooper, Hallmoor, Carlisle, with Charolais crosses from Messrs Baty, Broom Hill, Carlisle, leading the bullock section at £1355 twice. 
Weaned calves sold to £1260 for a Limousin bull from Mark Phillips, Mains of Minnydow, Castle Douglas, with bullocks to £1020 for British Blues from Skiddaw View Cottage and heifers to £985 for Limousins from Hargill House.

BULLOCKS averaged 217.6p per kg and heifers levelled at 213.14p at United Auctions’ sale of 1186 store cattle and 103 cast cows at Stirling. 
The 658 bullocks reached 262.3p for a 385kg Charolais cross from Berryknowe, and £1370 for a similar bullock weighing 676kg from Gateside. 
Heifers (406) peaked at 244.7p for a British Blue cross weighing 376kg from Laighpark, and £1285 for a 658kg Charolais cross from Gateside, to average 213.14p.
Among the 122 black and white bullocks, a Holstein Friesian cross from High Branchal sold for 159.10p, with others weighing 528kg from Nether Lethame and High Branchal to £840. They averaged 146.82p.
Levelling at 126.15p, a Limousin cross from Fulfordlees topped the 77 cast beef cows at 212.4p with a similar cow from Eastmill and a Simmental cross from Fulfordlees both making £1370. 
Dairy cows (17) cashed in to average 109.92p having sold to 134p and £1070 for a Holstein cross from Claylands.

DINGWALL and Highland Marts’ held their annual show and sale of Aberdeen-Angus, native and continental store cattle on Wednesday, which attracted a large entry of 1164. 
The 279 Aberdeen-Angus bullocks levelled at 217.3p per kg and reached 246.2p for a 390kg cross from Strathvaich, and £1360 for a pen of crosses weighing 601kg from Stemster Mains, Halkirk. 
Aberdeen-Angus heifers (188) cashed in at 210.9p and topped at 238.0p for a pen of 332kg crosses from Charleston, Thurso, and £1120 for a pair of 512kg crosses from 3 Dounie, Edderton. 
Amongst the other native bred cattle, 137 bullocks averaged 203.2p, while 53 heifers levelled at 213.4p. Bullocks sold to 239.5p for a pen of 451kg Shorthorn crosses from Tullochgorum, Boat of Garten, and £1170 for a pair of 454kg Wagu crosses from Stempster Mains, while heifers hit a top of 220.7p for a pair of 435kg Shorthorn crosses from Rattar Mains, and £1060 for a Shorthorn cross scaling 535kg from 3 Dounie.

ALL types were keenly sought after at Harrison and Hetherington’s fortnightly sale of store cattle, last week, where Limousin crosses from Craiglea topped both the price per head and pence per kilo sections. 
Top price per head at £1200 was a heifer while a bullock sold for 230.4p per kg.
On the same day, the centre held its annual sale of rams and ram lambs where a Texel from Blackladder topped at £550, while store sheep reached a top of £65.50 for a Texel from The Knock.

Huntly
SELLING through United Auctions on Thursday were 3163 breeding sheep, where Blackface and cross gimmers met a selective trade, while all ewes were sought after. 
The 780 gimmers sold to a top of £160 for a pen of Continentals from Rivestone, Kinnoir, while 652 ewes peaked at £88 twice for Mules from Glenriness, Dufftown, and Texel crosses from Croftdhu, Tomatin. 
Top price amongst the 633 ewe lambs was £115 for Cheviot Mules from Dalrachie, Ballindalloch.
On the same day, the firm sold 1098 store lambs where trade remained easier on the year. They reached a top of £65 for Texels from Greenland Mains, Castletown.

A LARGER ringside of buyers turned out at Craig Wilson’s sale of 623 store cattle at Ayr, last Thursday, where many weathered types were forward.
The 315 bullocks averaged 216.3p per kg and sold for the top price of £1175 for a Charolais from Dykes Farm. They also reached 242.7p for a pen of Limousins from Maxwelston.
Among the 215 heifers which levelled at 207.6p, a Limousin from Holehouse topped the price per head at £1100 while a pen of Limousins from Maxwelston made 245p. 
Friesian bullocks (93) cashed in at 141.3p and sold to £995 and 180.9p from Lindayston.
The firm’s sale of 684 breeding sheep hit a top of £137 for a pen of Mule gimmers from R Stevenson, Middlehouse, Carluke, while 1230 store lambs reached £63.50 for a pen of Suffolks from Messrs High, Cleughearn Farms, High Cleughearn, Strathaven, to average £46.84. 
On Saturday, Craig Wilson’s sale of breeding rams saw 202 accredited tups reach £740 three times firstly for Texel shearlings from Ian and David Walker, Laigh Alticane, and from J Wilson, Barneil. 
Non accredited tups (170) peaked at £850 for a Bluefaced Leicester shearling from Messrs Drummond, Cassington. 
On Tuesday, a bigger and better show for quality of dairy cattle was forward at the firm’s weekly sale of dairy cattle at Ayr, where the sale averaged £1405. 
Topping the sale at £1920 was a Holstein Friesian heifer from J Kennedy and Son, Perryston, while 139 calves and stirks reached £610 for a Charolais bull calf from J and J McDonald, Auchenhew, Arran.

AN EXCELLENT show of weaned calves was forward at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 1662 store cattle and 21 young calves last Friday, where bullock calves averaged 233.5p (+5.2p on the year) with 336 heifer calves at 225.8p (+5.6p). 
Trade reached 288.6p for a pen of three Limousin crosses from Milton, Glenbuchat, and £1300 three times firstly for a Limousin cross weighing 526kg from Auchorachan, Glenlivet, and for both a 556kg and 590kg Charolais cross from Mains of Cairnbarrow, Glass.
Top price amongst the heifers was 264.4p for a pen of six Charolais crosses from Wellheads, Huntly, and £1180 for a Charolais cross from Dalrachie, Ballindalloch. 
In the store cattle, 497 bullocks levelled at 222.1p and sold to 270.5p for four Charolais crosses from Ballgreen, South Ronaldsay, and £1470 for a 672kg British Blue cross from Harestone, Crathes. 
Heifers (306) averaged 213.6p having sold to 260.5p for a 430kg Limousin cross from 2 Bogie Street, Huntly, and £1480 for a 712kg Charolais from Harestone.
The nine bulls forward peaked at 223.6p for a 322kg Limousin cross from Milton and £910 for a 432kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Mid Mains of Balfour, Fettercairn. 
Outwith the sale, a show and sale of weaned calves judged by Alex Henderson, Amisfield, Dumfries, saw the overall champion, a 444kg Limousin cross bullock from W Robertson, Easter Fodderletter, Tomintoul, sell for £1170, while the champion heifer, a 474kg Limousin cross from Balfour Baillie, Sebay Cottage, Tankerness, made £1180. 
Orkney and Shetland cattle saw bullocks reach 270.5p for a pen of four Charolais from Balgreen South, Ronaldsay, and £1330 for a 544kg Limousin cross from Beboran, Harray.
The sale of island heifers peaked at 252.2p for a 400kg Limousin from Fersness Farms, Eday, and £1180 for a 554kg Charolais from Nistagar, Harray. 
Forward the same day were 3257 island sheep, where 2786 island lambs sold to £70 for Texels from Virse, Haroldswick, with 471 others to £77.50 for Suffolks from Quendale, Dunrossness.
On Tuesday, the firm held its annual show and sale of breeding cattle, where well-bred milky heifers with strong calves met a sound demand. 
Attracting an entry of 235 head, the overall champion, a Simmental cross with Limousin cross heifer calf at foot from EM Smith and Son, Towiemore, Drummuir, sold for the top price of £2900 to Dunbeath Farms, Dunbeath. Towiemore also stood reserve with a Limousin cross heifer and heifer calf, which sold for £2250 to B Buchan, Clinterty, New Aberdour. 
Included on the day was the dispersal of commercial breeding cattle from Robert Grant, Learney Home Farm, Torphins, which reached £4900 for a four-year-old Limousin bull.

Lockerbie
AN entry of 563 cattle was forward at Harrison and Hetherington’s show and sale of suckled calves at Lockerbie, on Tuesday, where 332 bullocks averaged 218.5p per kg and 241 heifers cashed in at 215.6p. 
Trade reached a top of £1370 for a Limousin bullock from Messrs Halliday and Son, Pearsbyhall, and 298.1p for Limousin bullocks from Haas Grove Farm.
In the heifers, a top price of £1210 was paid for an entry from Redhall Farm, while Haas Grove Farm topped the pence per kilo section at 287.4p twice. 
Show champion was an eight-month-old Limousin bullock weighing 386kg from G Bell, Haas Grove, which sold for £1110 to the judge, while the reserve champion, a Limousin heifer from the same home scaling 348kg, sold for £1000 to Gordon Park, Hen Moss Farm.

On Monday, the firm sold 1198 suckled calves at its show and sale, where the reserve champion topped the trade at £1480 and 347.4p per kg. 
This was a 426kg Limousin cross heifer consigned by Newton of Logierait.
The champion, selected by judge Jimmy Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, was a 522kg Charolais cross heifer from Duncan Semple, Dippen, that realised £1380. The best pen of four – 544kg bullocks from Ballechin Farms – later sold for £1340. 
Overall, averages were up on the year as 703 bullocks averaged 239.28p (+8.76p) with 495 heifers at 231.34p (+2.46p). 
The reserve champion led the heifer trade, while bullocks reached 290p for a 369kg Limousin cross from Newton of Logierait and £1420 for the first prize Charolais bullock weighing 554kg from Ross Farms, Wester Middleton. 
Also sold were 6310 store lambs and feeding sheep where lambs peaked at £71.50 for Beltex from Balafark. Averages included Beltex cross, £68.15 (+£11.83 on the week); Texel cross, £54.02 (-57p); Suffolk cross, £55.35 (-£3.19); Cheviot, £42.15 (-£5.92); Mule, £47.39 (-£4.88); Blackface, £36.75 (-£3.90).

AN offering of 6671 store lambs, breeding and feeding sheep sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts last week, saw 183 ewe lambs sell to £116 for a pen of Mules from Mains of Glenbuchat, Strathdon. 
Gimmers and ewes (1441) reached £165 for continental gimmers from Gowanloan, Durno. 
Store lambs (1372) sold to £77 for Texels form Wester Wyndings, Stonehaven, with the island offering of 1956 lambs reaching £67 for Suffolks from both Anness, Cunningshaugh, and Briarlea, Sullom. 
The 539 island sheep sold to £128 for Shetland Cheviot gimmers from West Town, Bardister, Ollaberry, while the 342 sheep from the Isle of Uist sold to £89.50 for a Suffolk ram from 13 Baleshare, North Uist. 
Feeding ewes and rams (835) sold to £110 for Texel ewes from Little Whitefield, Forglen.
The firm’s show and sale of weaned calves, saw 514 bullocks average 233.5p (+5.2p on the year) with 336 heifers at 225.8p (+5.6p). 
Judged by Alex Henderson, Amisfield, Dumfries, the overall champion was a 444kg Limousin cross bullock from W Robertson, Easter Fodderletter, Tomintoul, which sold for £1170, while the champion heifer, a 474kg Limousin cross from Balfour Baillie, Sebay Cottage, Tankerness, made £1180. 
Trade reached 288.6p for three Limousin cross bullocks from Milton, Glenbuchat, and £1300 three times – for a 526kg Limousin cross from Auchorachan, Glenlivet, and for a 556kg and a 590kg Charolais cross from Mains of Cairnbarrow, Glass. 
Top price among the heifers was 264.4p for a pen of six Charolais crosses from Wellheads, Huntly, and £1180 for a Charolais cross from Dalrachie, Ballindalloch. 
The 497 store bullocks levelled at 222.1p and sold to 270.5p for four Charolais crosses from Ballgreen, South Ronaldsay, and £1470 for a 672kg British Blue cross from Harestone, Crathes. 
Store heifers (306) averaged 213.6p having sold to 260.5p for a 430kg Limousin cross from 2 Bogie Street, Huntly, and £1480 for a 712kg Charolais from Harestone.
Also forward were 3257 island sheep, which saw the 2786 lambs sell to £70 for Texels from Virse, Haroldswick, with 471 other sheep to £77.50 for Suffolks from Quendale, Dunrossness.
On Tuesday, the firm held its annual show and sale of breeding cattle, where well-bred milky heifers with strong calves met a sound demand. 
Attracting an entry of 235 head, the overall champion, a Simmental cross with Limousin cross heifer calf at foot from EM Smith and Son, Towiemore, Drummuir, sold for the top price of £2900 to Dunbeath Farms. 
Towiemore also took the reserve with a Limousin cross heifer and heifer calf, which sold for £2250 to B Buchan, Clinterty. 
Included was the dispersal of commercial breeding cattle from Robert Grant, Learney Home Farm, Torphins, which reached £4900 for a four-year-old Limousin bull.

DINGWALL and Highland Marts’ held its annual show and sale of Aberdeen-Angus, native and continental store cattle, which attracted an entry of 1164. 
The 279 Aberdeen-Angus bullocks levelled at 217.3p per kg and reached 246.2p for a 390kg cross from Strathvaich, and £1360 for a pen of crosses weighing 601kg from Stemster Mains, Halkirk. 
Aberdeen-Angus heifers (188) cashed in at 210.9p and were topped at 238p for 332kg crosses from Charleston, Thurso, and £1120 for a pair of 512kg crosses from 3 Dounie, Edderton. 
The 137 other native bred bullocks averaged 203.2p, while the 53 heifers levelled at 213.4p. 
These bullocks sold to 239.5p for 451kg Shorthorn crosses from Tullochgorum, Boat of Garten, and £1170 for a pair of 454kg Wagyu crosses from Stempster Mains, while heifers hit a top of 220.7p for a pair of 435kg Shorthorn crosses from Rattar Mains, and £1060 for a Shorthorn cross scaling 535kg from 3 Dounie.
Limousin crosses weighing 368kg from 217 The Doll, Brora, led the continental bullocks at 266.3p while an 810kg Charolais cross from Old Bank House, Lochmaddy, sold for £1450. They averaged 213.4p for 275.

The centre also staged its annual sale of rams which was topped by a Texel from Blackadder at £550. Store sheep reached £65.50 for a Texel from The Knock.

BLACKFACE and cross gimmers met a selective trade at United Auctions’ sale of 3163 breeding sheep, while all ewes were sought after. 
The 780 gimmers sold to a top of £160 for a pen of continentals from Rivestone, Kinnoir, while the 652 ewes peaked at £88 twice for Mules from Glenriness, Dufftown, and Texel crosses from Croftdhu, Tomatin. 
Top price among the 633 ewe lambs was £115 paid for Cheviot Mules from Dalrachie, Ballindalloch.
Also sold were 1098 store lambs which reached £65 for Texels from Greenland Mains, Castletown.

A LARGE ringside of buyers was forward for Craig Wilson’s sale of 623 store cattle at Ayr, where many weathered types were forward.
The 315 bullocks averaged 216.3p per kg and sold to £1175 for a Charolais from Dykes Farm and 242.7p for Limousins from Maxwelston.
The 215 heifers which levelled at 207.6p, were led by a Limousin from Holehouse at £1100 while a pen of Limousins from Maxwelston made 245p. 
Friesian bullocks (93) cashed in at 141.3p and sold to £995 and 180.9p from Lindayston.
The firm’s sale of 684 breeding sheep hit a top of £137 for Mule gimmers from R Stevenson, Middlehouse, while 1230 store lambs reached £63.50 for Suffolks from High Cleughearn Farms, Strathaven, to average £46.84. 
On Saturday, the company’s sale of breeding rams saw 202 accredited tups reach £740 three times – for Texel shearlings from Ian and David Walker, Laigh Alticane, and J Wilson, Barneil. 
Non-accredited tups (170) peaked at £850 for a Bluefaced Leicester shearling from Matt Drummond, Cassington.

A PEN of six Blackface ewes from Iain and David Macarthur,  Arnicle, topped the sale of 9983 breeding sheep at United Auctions’ Dalmally centre when they sold for £680 apiece.

The reserve, a Charolais cross bullock from the same home, made £1310.
Bullocks (468) averaged 216.9p per kg (+0.8p on the year) and sold to 250.6p for three 431kg Charolais crosses from  Gerston, Halkirk, and £1380 for a 688kg Charolais cross from Hillhead Farm, Dunnet, Thurso.

Heifers sold to £1210 from Redhall Farm, while heifers from Haas Grove Farm hit 287.4p twice for the champion and reserve from the pre-sale show – Limousin heifers weighing 386kg and 348kg that realised £1110 and £1000, respectively.
