Dingwall
ALL classes sold similar on the week at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 275 weaned calves and store cattle, where 146 bullocks averaged 221.2p per kg and 127 heifers levelled at 211.2p. 
Bullocks reached 269.4p for a Limousin cross weighing 245kg from 11 Aird, Sleat, Isle of Skye, and £1200 for a 535kg Shorthorn cross from Fairburn Farms, Muir of Ord. 
Amongst the heifers, it was a Limousin cross weighing 308kg from Achardale, Halkirk, which topped at 259.7p, while a 490kg Simmental cross from Moy and Ruthven Farms, Moy Mains, made £1250. 
An in-calf Limousin cow from 1 and 2 Conon, Isle of Skye, topped the five breeding cattle when it sold for £1400.
The 2619 store lambs averaged £42.86 and sold to £69 for a Cheviot Mule from Glenurquhart, Cromarty, while 589 ewes and gimmers peaked at £95 for Cheviots from 20 Camuscross, Sleat, to average £36.47.

Carlisle
A SMALLER entry of 310 store cattle was forward at Harrison and Hetherington’s Borderway Mart, where a top of £1355 was paid for a Limousin cross heifer from Niven Hill, Gretna. 
Top price amongst the bullocks was £1210 for a pen of British Blues from New House, Carlisle. 
The 458 suckled calves sold on the same day ensured a large ringside of buyers where trade peaked at £1100 for a pen of eight-month-old Limousin bullocks from Thirlwall Castle, Brampton, while heifer calves sold to £950 from the same home. 
Weathered cattle proved harder to cash amongst the weaned cattle and sold to £1120 for Limousin bull calves from Milton Mains. 
The firm’s weekly sale of young calves topped at £500 for a British Blue bull calf from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown, Longtown. 
The company held its monthly sale of beef breeding cattle where a top price of £2800 was paid for a Limousin cross heifer with heifer calf at foot from Messrs McAlister, Wester Thomaston.

UNITED Auctions’ recent store sale saw 635 bullocks average 207.21p per kg and 325 heifers level at 137.71p. 
Bullocks topped the sale when a 400kg Limousin cross from Berryhill sold for 247.5p and a Simmental cross weighing 624kg from Dumloist made £1295.
In the heifers, a Limousin cross also from Berryhill sold for 233.8p, while a 582kg Charolais cross from Drumnessie realised £1190.
The 117 black and white bullocks levelled at 137.71p and sold to 190.3p for a 381kg Holstein cross from Meikle Camoquhill, and £795 for a 498kg British Friesian cross from Wellees.

STORE lambs increased in value at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 1635 head at Thainstone, where they peaked at £69.50 for Texels from Todholes, Lower Cabrach. 
Breeding sheep also sold dearer on the week when 118 rams peaked at £550 for a Bluefaced Leicester shearling ram from West Mains, Nethermuir, and 945 gimmers and ewes sold to £150 for Texels from Cloak, Lumphanan. 
Amongst the 2136 island sheep, Texel ewes from Grunnafirth, Brettabister, topped at £120. 
The firm also sold 379 bullocks which averaged 214.1p (-0.8p) and 200 heifers at 198.1p (-4.9p).
Bullocks sold to 249p for a pair of Charolais crosses from Kastal, Langskaill, and £1380 for a 650kg Limousin cross from Bograxie, Inverurie, while heifers peaked at 229.8p for a 496kg Limousin cross from Greeloan, Cabrach, and £1240 for a similar heifer weighing 586kg from Brewthin, Cullerlie. 
On the same day, Orkney and Shetland cattle saw bullocks reach 249p for a pair of 506kg Charolais from Kastal, Langskaill, Birsay, and £1370 for a 668kg Limousin from Russland, Westray. 
Heifers peaked at 222p for a pen of four Simmentals weighing 456kg from Eastabist, Dounby, and £1155 for a 532kg Charolais from Kierford, Sandwick.

Ayr
TRADE reached a top of £1325 and 268.5p per kg at Craig Wilson’s sale of 606 store cattle at Ayr. 
Top price per head was a Limousin bullock from Gass, Straiton, while a Charolais bullock from Ceither Gaoithe, Arran, topped the pence per kg section. 
The same two homes led the heifers when Gass sold a pen of four Limousins for £1240, while Charolais’ from Ceither Gaoithe sold for 255.6p. 
In all, 333 bullocks averaged 207.4p or £899.45 and 219 heifers levelled at 204.6p or £839.45. 
Amongst the 54 Friesian bullocks a pen from Low Ardwell sold for £740 or 156.3p, to average 138.7p.
A better show of 1166 store lambs sold sharper on the week, reaching £65.50 for a pen of Beltex cross lambs from DG Gilmour, Blackbarns, while 514 breeding sheep peaked at £122 for a pen of Mule gimmers from J Hunter and Co, Mochrum. 
On Tuesday, the firm had forward 112 calves and stirks which saw calves top at £455 for a Limousin cross bull from Rigghead, while stirks peaked at £790 for a Limousin cross heifer from Lanemark.

CALEDONIAN Marts sold 192 cattle and 186 sheep at its autumn sale on Islay, where 104 bullocks averaged £630 (+£6 on the year) and 82 heifers averaged £534 (+£27). 
They reached £840 for a Limousin bullock from D McMillan, Ballulive, who also topped the heifer trade at £720. 
Mr Martin also led the lamb trade with Texel crosses at £58.

A GOOD show of calves met a strong demand at Lochmaddy, Uist, where Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 317 weaned calves and store cattle. 
Weaned bullocks (171) averaged 245.3p per kg and sold to 307.7p three times for a 425kg Limousin cross, a similar bullock weighing 400kg and a pair of 435kg Limousin crosses, all from 1 Knockline, Bayhead.  
The 127 weaned heifers levelled at 219.1p and peaked at 285.7p for a 245kg Limousin cross from 12 Sollas, Lochmaddy, and £860 for a 375kg Limousin cross from 22 and 10 Balemore, Bayhead. 
Amongst the store cattle, nine bullocks reached 225.9p for a 425kg Limousin cross from Old Inn, Lochmaddy, and £1070 for a 610kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from 38 Linique, Lochboisdale.

SOLD through Caledonian Marts on Monday, were 2848 sheep, where a top store lamb price of £67.50 was paid for a pen of Beltex crosses from W Patrick, Ballinkinrain. 
Cheviots gimmers from Hallbarns topped the breeding sheep at £76, while Suffolks from Torr sold for the top price of £64 in the breeding sheep.
