Penrith
A STRONG SQQ average of 181p per kg was set at Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart’s sale of 2228 prime lambs.
They peaked at 256p for a pair of Beltex weighing 39kg from A and A Little, Penton, while more Beltex from MH Elliot, Espland House, hit £108. The good entry of Beltex from Espland House averaged £102.10.
A smaller show of cast sheep reached £115 and £113 for Suffolk ewes from Hyde Park, with Mules to £84 from Langton Field while rams reached £100 for continentals from Holme Farm.

Selling on Monday, was a small selection of bulls which peaked at 194.5p per kg and £1441.83 for Salers from TJ and D Dixon, Shire Lodge. 
The company also sold 42 OTM cattle where a British Blue cow from R Hall and Sons, Inglewood Edge, attracted the top prices of 195.5p and £1307.90, with the run of Blue and Limousin cows from Inglewood Edge cashing in to average £1102.69 and 160.84p. 
Dairy cows reached 145.5p and £1037.42 from Messrs Fisher, Yanwath Woodhouse.

Dumfries
PRIME cattle were in short supply at C and D Auction Marts, where seven peaked at 232p per kg for a Limousin heifer from Horseholm. 
Trade for the 104 OTM cattle was competitive as 59 beef cows averaged 123p and sold to 192p and £1384 for Limousins from Balure. 
Averaging 101.4p, the 45 dairy cows reached 153p for Friesians from Drum and £1070.55 for Holsteins from Kirktonfield. 
Prime lambs (1220) were no dearer on the week for a mixed offering as they sold to 181p for SQQ-weight Texels from Paddockhole and £84 for heavy Texels from Capelfoot. 
Lightweight lambs sold to £53 and 166p for Blackfaces from Queensberry, and heavier SQQ lambs reached 180p for Suffolks from Shawhill and £75.50 for more of the same from Glenjaan.
Cast sheep (249) sold slightly sharper on the week as crosses from Newmains led at £83.50, with rams to the same price for Texels from Burn. 

Forfar
A BRITISH Blue heifer weighing 634kg from Gask topped Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 28 prime cattle when she realised 266p per kg and £1686.44.
Bullocks reached 249p and £1648.85 for Limousins from Nethermyres weighing 626kg and 673kg, respectively. The eight bullocks averaged 238p while 19 heifers levelled at 243p. 
Cast cows sold to 118p for a Simmental cross from Newbiggin and £1020 for an Aberdeen-Angus from St Fort.
Prime lambs (868) hit top prices of 216.2p and £90 for Beltex from Mains of Dalrulzion, with Beltex from Easter Balgillo also making £90. They averaged 165.6p (-2.2p on the week).
Texels from Coiliamy led the 288 cast ewes at £90. 

Huntly
A MIXED show cashed in at similar rates on the week as the 939 prime lambs sold through United Auctions reached a top of 178p per kg for Charollais weighing 39kg from Midtown of Buchromb, Dufftown. 
Per head, both 56.5kg Texels from Hillhead of Mornish, Glenlivet, and 60kg Texels from Balquindachy, Turriff, sold for £92. 
Ewes met a firm enquiry as 916 sold to £110 for Texels from Glenrinnes Estate. 

Thainstone
CATTLE from Auchmaliddie Mains, Maud, led Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 57 prime cattle when a 600kg Charolais heifer realised £1470 and a 575kg Limousin bullock sold for £1437.50. 
Per kg, trade reached 250p for that bullock from Auchmaliddie Mains and the same again for a Limousin heifer tipping the scales at 525kg from Waterside of Forbes, Alford. 
Averages were back slightly on the week as 13 bullocks averaged 205.4p (-1p) and 22 heifers levelled at 212.7p (-0.1p). 
Eight young bulls averaged 151p, having hit a top of 175p for a 595kg Simmental from Netherton, Glenlivet, as well as £1288.85 for a Limousin weighing 865kg from Buchaam, Strathdon.
The selection of cattle aged 30 to 48 months reached 217p for a 675kg Limousin heifer from West Knock, Mintlaw, which also realised £1464.75 as the seven heifers averaged 185.7p (+3.3p). 
The same number of bullocks averaged 181.1p having peaked at 195p for a 700kg Simmental from Windsoer, Enzie, and £1500.60 for a Limousin weighing 820kg from Tullochleys, Clatt.
A Limousin from South Crichie, St Katherines, led the 279 beef cows, which averaged 133.7p (+0.7p), at 181.9p and £1355. 
The 14 prime bulls sold to 129.7p and £1375 for a Limousin from Shannas, Clola, and averaged 114.1p (-8.6p).
New season lambs (1143) averaged 160.5p (-5.4p), with 657 SQQ lambs at 164.1p (-2.8p). They peaked at 191.7p for 42kg Beltex from Backhill of Feterletter, Fyvie, and £88.50 for 65kg Texels from Nethermill Croft, Kintore. 

Stirling (Cal)
ALL classes of prime cattle bucked the deadweight trend and sold dearer on the week at Caledonian Marts’ sale of 105, where bullocks levelled at 226p per kg and heifers cashed in to average 220p. 
They sold to 255p for a Limousin heifer from Walter Dandie, Learielaw, Broxburn, with a Limousin bullock from the same home hitting 248p. 
A British Blue bullock from D McLaren, Classlochie, led the gross trade at £1719 while heifers reached £1660 for a Limousin from David Dickinson, Brockwoodlees. 
The 91 cast cattle saw beef cows average 114p and sell to 180p and £1240 from Learielaw, while dairy cows averaged 96p having peaked at 123.5p and £880 from Messrs Paterson and Sons, Stenhouse. 
On Tuesday, a small show of sheep sold slightly easier on the week as lambs averaged 166.5p (-4.1p on the week) with the 1301 lambs weighing 39kg and above cashing in at £75.50 (-£1.58). 
Beltex lambs from Doune Farms that topped at £103 for a 59kg lamb and 211p for one weighing 38kg. 
Also forward were 961 cast sheep where trade was dearer on the week as 146 heavy ewes averaged £78.42 and sold to £121 for a Suffolk from J and HM Grieve, Crofthead, Fowlis Wester, while 420 export ewes levelled at £34.87.
Rams reached £132 for a Suffolk cross from J Gladstone and Son, Fullarton. 

Ballymena
A GOOD entry of 370 beef cattle sold through JA McClelland and Sons, where a top price among the prime cattle of 218p per kg was paid for an Aberdeen-Angus heifer weighing 510kg from WA Harkness, Crumlin. 
Beef bullocks hit 208p for a 650kg Charolais from John McKeague, Dunloy, and Friesian bullocks sold to 152p for a 760kg entry from James Gaston, Ballinaloob. 
Beef cows reached 192p for one at 810kg from H McCracken, Ballywater, which also realised £1555
Friesian cows peaked at 132p for one weighing 730kg from McGookin Farming. 

Longtown
CLEAN cattle sold well through C and D Auction Marts where 10 peaked at 231p per kg for a British Blue heifer from J, J and D Taylor, Englishtown. 
Cast cows (24) were mostly plainer hill sorts but met a brisk trade selling to 125p for a Luing from W Wilson, Geltsdale. 
The entry of 4554 prime lambs met a good trade with best quality sorts very dear and short of buyer requirements. 
Heavyweight and export lambs maintained last week’s rates although those in the light section up to 32kg were dearer as long as well fleshed. They sold to 263p for Beltex from J Oliver and Sons, Waltonwoodhead, and £104 for a pen of Beltex from M and W Fotheringham, Drumcairn. 
The sale averaged 174.1p with SQQs at 175.6p. 
Cast sheep (5164) met a similar trade on the week although the biggest and best were sharper while Mules were a few pounds easier. Well fleshed exports were £4 to £5 sharper on the week. 
They reached £148 for heavy Texels from GJ Toppin, Bascodyke, with lightweight ewes to £66 for Lleyns from Over Whitlaw and rams to £144 for Texels from Four o Boot. 

Stirling (UA)
UNITED Auctions sold 5211 prime sheep, where 3912 lambs cashed in to average 165.5p per kg. 
They were topped at 215p by Beltex off Luckenburn and £102 for Texels from Doune Farms. 
Ewes and rams (1299) reached £142 for Texels off Hill from Errol. 
Darlington
DARLINGTON Auction Mart’s recent offering of 126 prime cattle peaked at 276p per kg for a Limousin heifer from JL Marks, Gilly Flatts, with a top price per head of £1771 paid for a Limousin bullock from RS Hall and Sons, Ivy House. 
Prime bulls (152) sold to 243p from five vendors – two from RS Hall and Sons, Ivy House; one from AS and SM Kelp, Whitwell; another from RA Busby and Son, Harland House; one from Waterloo Farms; and finally JB Luck, Milestone House. The last home also sold the top gross priced lot at £1901. 
Lambs met a firmer trade on the week with heavier sorts very much in demand as 2844 sold to 221p for continentals from J Thompson, Wellfield House, and £109 from J Davies, Low Trough. 
Cast sheep (811) sold to £109 for Texel tups from F Ward, Rogerley Hall. 

Ayr
SELLING through Craig Wilson on Monday were 1657 prime lambs, where tops of £90 and 200p per kg were paid for Texels from S Rorrison, Dallowie. 
Lightweights reached 196.1p for 38kg Beltex from R Mitchell, Fowler, with the sale cashing in to average 164.1p. 
Heading up the cast sheep entry at £137 were Texel cross ewes from Fowler, as 196 heavy ewes averaged £61.18. 
Light ewes (298) averaged £32.80 having sold to £56 for Blackfaces from N McIntyre, Middleton, with Mules to £83.50 from J Howie, Girtridge. 
On Tuesday, prime cattle sold to 234p for a Limousin cross heifer from W Crawford and Sons, Mansfield Mains, as 10 butchers’ heifers averaged 225p. 
Among the cast cows, 63 beef-bred sorts averaged 114.3p with 116 dairy cows at 84.3p. 
They sold to £1210 for a Simmental cross from B Vance, Mid Skeog, and 173.9p for a Hereford cross from W Gemmell, Drumdow (Stair). 

St Boswells
ON Monday, Harrison and Hetherington sold 69 clean cattle to a top of 271p per kg for a heifer from Bee Edge, with the same home leading the gross trade at £1577.22. 
Bullocks averaged 223p (+19p on the week) with 39 heifers at 235p (n/c). 
Cast cows (84) averaged 133p (-4p) and sold to 209p and £1417 from Wester Middleton. 
The 1635 averaged 166.3p (-12p on the week) and sold to 220.7p twice for Beltex from Crookston as well as £102 for Texels from Blackadder Mains. 
Ewes were dearer on the week when 296 averaged £52.60. Heavy ewes averaged £72 and sold to £91 for Texels from Nether Kidston, while lighter types averaged £37 having sold to £81 for North Country Cheviots from Haltree.

Carlisle
AN offering of 38 prime cattle sold sharper on the week through Harrison and Hetherington, where trade peaked at £1797.95 for a Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Miller, West End, Aspatria. 
Bullocks reached 234.5p per kg for a Limousin from Messrs Story, Newbiggin, but it was a Limousin heifer from Messrs Dent, Elm House, that led the section at 256.5p. Heifers also reached £1598 for a British Blue cross from the same home. 
Prime bulls (51) sold to £1745.54 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Twentyman, Osborne, and 237.5p for a British Blue from Messrs Birkbeck, Castle Hill. 
A large show of 373 cast cows saw a top of £1432 paid for a Limousin from Hill House with a Blue from Scar Top at 195.5p. 
Prime lambs (2177) were of a lesser show and sold to 245.6p for Dutch Texels from A Dawson, Thorneyland, as well as £100 for Texels from Newbiggin. 

Lanark
A LIMOUSIN heifer weighing 546kg from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, topped Lawrie and Symington’s prime sale at 260p per kg. 
Bullocks reached 241p from Oldhill. Butchers’ cattle averaged 243.1p. 
Cast cattle (111) peaked at 162.6p and £1405 for Limousins from Bogside, with dairy cows to 142.1p from Cromlet and £895 from over Kypeside. 
Averaging 169.5p, lambs sold to 214.3p for 42kg Beltex from Ashcraig Farming and £95.50 for 56kg Texels from A Barr and Son, Hallhill. 
Cast sheep hit £125.50 for Texel ewes from Corstane. 

Dingwall
A PAIR of 610kg British Blue bullocks from Easter Sheep Park, Balblair, topped Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of prime cattle when they both realised 219p per kg or £1335.90. Only two bullocks sold. 
The 17 heifers reached 216p three times for Limousin crosses weighing 565kg, 575kg and 610kg from Bridgend, Dingwall, as well as £1407.60 for a 690kg Charolais cross from Mountrich, Dingwall. They averaged 211.8p (-4.3p). 
The 425 prime lambs levelled at 159p (-4.5p) having peaked at 188.2p and £87.50 for Texel crosses weighing 46.5kg from Conon Brae Farms. The 230 SQQ lambs averaged 162p (-3.2p). 
Texel cross ewes from Cantraywood House, Croy, led the 164 feeding sheep at £96. 

Castle Douglas
WALLETS Marts sold 959 prime lambs on Tuesday which sold to average 164p per kg, with SQQ lambs at 167.71p. 
A top of £106 and 251.8p was paid for a pen of Beltex from Messrs Bunting, Bridgestone, followed at £100 for heavy Texels from Master A Kerr, Fagra, Dundrennan. 
Cast ewes were of a plainer show but sold slightly sharper on the week, hitting £115 for Texel rams and £108 for Texel ewes, all from Townhead of Culloch. 

Newton Stewart
ON Wednesday, Craig Wilson sold 1524 sheep where 1154 prime lambs levelled at 162.2p per kg with more Mule and Blackface entries forward.
Top price was £90 paid for heavy Texels from Balsalloch, Lendalfoot and for 42kg Beltex from Carslae which topped the price per kg at 214.3p.
Ewes sold to £127 for Suffolks from Redbrae.
