Carlisle
A LARGE ringside of buyers ensured all classes were well bid for at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of 405 store cattle, where a Charolais-sired bullock from Messrs Dobson, West End, Maryport, topped the entry at £1400. 
Heifers sold to £1330 for a trio of British Blues from Messrs Slack, Newby, Carlisle, while the offering of black and whites hit £1145 from Messrs Harrison, Dundraw, Wigton. 
An entry of 259 unentered and weaned cattle met a strong demand selling to £1170 for a Limousin cross bullock form Messrs Foster, Desoglin, Brampton. 
Weaned bulls sold to £905 for Charolais from Stockholm and heifers reached £840 for Limousins from Keepershield. 
A couple of days later, the company held its monthly sale of breeding cattle where a Limousin cross heifer with calf at foot from Messrs Harrison, Aldermanseat, Greatna, topped at £2550. 
The entry of cows with calves hit £2300 for a Limmy with her third at foot, a Limousin-sired heifer, from Messrs Beard, Dormanstead, Roweltown, and in-calf females sold to £1580 for a British Blue cow from Kingside.

Lochboisdale
A RECORD catalogued entry of 491 cattle and 965 sheep sold through United Auctions’ late autumn sale at Lochboisdale, which drew stock from Barra, Eriskay, Benbecula and North Uist and left vendors happy despite a marathon 11-hour sale. 
Blonde crosses from 6 Dunganachy topped the price per kg trade at 284p for bullocks and 267p for heifers, while Simmental cross bullocks from both 3 Vatersay, Barra, and 88 Bualadubh, topped the gross trade at £1080.
An entry from 7 Griminish headed up the cast cows at £1120. 
Store lambs peaked at £76 for Texel crosses from 32 Liniclate and cast ewes hit £88 from 18 West Gerinish.

UNITED Auctions sold 758 store cattle at Stirling, where 413 bullocks averaged 210.56p per kg with 11 dairy-bred bullocks at 141.14p and 334 heifers at 196.12p. 
Leading the trade at 260p was a 308kg Charolais cross bullock from Ashmark, with bullocks also hitting £1270 for a 614kg Simmental cross from Parkfergus. 
A Limousin cross heifer weighing 583kg from Knock o’ Ronald topped the gross trade at £1275, and a 397kg Limousin cross heifer off Croftintygan hit 246.9p. 
Averaging 123.51p for 169 (with seven dairy sorts at 70.17p), cast cows reached 199.6p for a Simmental cross from Braedam and £1470 for a Charolais cross from Carwood.

TRADE was similar for a mixed quality show of 309 store cattle at Craig Wilson, where the gross trade hit £1250 on two occasions – for a Limousin bullock from Collenan and again for a Charolais heifer off Roan. 
Charolais crosses from Mains of Tig led the price per kg at 273.4p for bullocks at 262.3p for heifers. 
Dairy-bred bullocks reached £850 for a pen from Crooks and 166p for a pen of 14 from Alton, Drumore. 
Averages included 155 bullocks at 205.9p or £843.71, 51 dairy bullocks at 143.7p or £584.76, and 103 heifers at 196.4p. 
Also on offer were 976 store lambs where a pen of Cheviots from S Lambie, Glensherraig, Arran, topped at £62.50.

A LARGE entry of store cattle for the time of year met a sharper trade at North West Auctions, where Charolais bullocks from D and NS Alderson, High Green, topped at £1460. 
Native-bred cattle reached £1330 for Aberdeen-Angus bullocks from L Parsons and Sons, Low Levens, and heifers hit £1160 twice – for Charolais from R and C Parkinson, Hambleton, and again for Limousins from JD and GM Bracken, Greenlands. 
A large entry of cast cows reached 159.5p per kg for British Blues from Ballacutchel Farms and averaged 113p for 145.

Thainstone
STORE cattle continued to meet the previous week’s rates at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 778, which included an offering of organic cattle where 11 bullocks averaged 273.5p and 13 heifers levelled at 274.7p. 
Stabilisers from New Holland, Holm, topped the organic trade when a pair of 356kg bullocks made 289.3p, a 410kg bullock sold for £1090, a pen of four heifers weighing 362kg made 276.2p, and a pen of five 384kg heifers realised £1050. 
Among the conventional cattle, Limousins from Balmadies, Forfar, topped the section at 282.5p for a pen of five bullocks weighing 308kg with heifers to 273.3p for a 300kg trio. 
Per head, a 736kg Charolais bullock from Bush, Huntly, made £1410 and a 724kg Aberdeen-Angus heifer from Sauchenbush, Echt, was knocked down for £1390.
Also on offer was a selection of 3729 sheep, where store lambs increased in value on the week as the entry of 1693 sold to a top of £71.50 for Texels from Strath, Watten
The 789 island lambs peaked at £65 three times – for Beltex from Strathore, Sharpinsay, for Texels from Rennibister, Kirkwall, and lastly for Suffolk crosses from The Grind, Stronsay. 
Ewe lambs (78) reached £68 for Mules from Midtown of Buchromb, Dufftown, and the remaining island sheep (177) hit £72 for Texel ewes from Mid Setter, Papa Stour. 
The 21 breeding rams peaked at £250 for a Beltex shearling from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer, and the 146 breeding females sold to £140 for Mule gimmers from Wardhead, Strichen. 
Feeding ewes and rams (825) sold to £100.50 for Texel rams from Orquil.

Forfar
A TOTAL of 90 suckled calves and store cattle sold through Lawrie and Symington on Tuesday, where the 18 bullock calves averaged 242p per kg and the 14 heifers levelled at 218p. 
They reached 295p for British Blue heifers from Govals as well as £1170 for Limousin heifers from Wairds of Alpity. 
Meikle Coull Farms led the bullock trade at 273p for Limousins and £950 for Romagnola crosses. 
Among the store cattle, Limousins led throughout as Strone topped the price per kg at 250p for bullocks and 229p for heifers, while Limousins from Scronley reached £1290 for bullocks and £1100 for heifers. 
The 24 bullocks averaged 233p and the 34 heifers levelled at 216p. 
Also on offer were store lambs which reached £50 for Texel crosses from Gleneffock.

ALL stock cleared at satisfactory levels at United Auctions’ end of season sale at Dalmally, where 1401 sheep were forward.
Store lambs hit £63 for Texels from Balantyne Farm Partnership. 
Ewes peaked at £52.50 for Suffolks from Achnacreemore.

FEWER lambs forward resulted in a dearer trade at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 4625 store lambs and feeding ewes on Tuesday.
A Beltex from Westhills (Smith) sold for the top price of £80, followed at £78 for Texels from the same home. 
Feeding ewes (462) were a good trade for all types and sold to £70 for a Leicester from Cooks House, with hill ewes to £50 from Attonburn. 
The company also sold 68 store cattle which peaked at £1150 for a black Limousin heifer from F Gibson, Southwoodhead, while bullocks reached £1060 for a Charolais from TS Brass, Espland.

A SMALLER sale of sheep at JA McLelland and Sons on Monday saw store lambs peakat £78 for a pen of eight Texels from John Robinson, Hollywood. 
On Tuesday, the company sold 100 store cattle which met a sharper trade and sold to £1265 for a 610kg Charolais bullock from JW Duff, Cookstown, with bullocks also reached 223p per kg for a 380kg Limousin from D Thompson, Bushmills. 
Heifers peaked at £1020 for a 550kg Charolais from E O’Donnell, Toome, and 227p for a 380kg Limousin from David Andrew, Templepatrick.

Castle Douglas
A SMALL show of cast cows and store cattle sold through Wallets Marts on Monday, where the offering of store cattle, which were all heifers, cashed in to average 167.77p per kg or £990.91.
They sold to £1210 for a British Blue from T Robb, Trolane, Dalry, as well as 183.1p for a Charolais from J Mair and Son, Bargatton. 
Cast cows reached a top of £1141.19 for a Simmental from Graplin Farms, Borness, Borgue, and 167p for a Charolais from Straith Estates, Moniaive.
